So I need a brief explanation or rule of thumb for power systems and the over amping of power systems.
I’m sure they are in here but can’t find anything succinct that will help out the guys I’ve been sport running with.
I’m a 4s runner with the occasional 5s rip but my new friends are somewhat new and are convinced that more volts are best.
Needless to say they burn a lot of equipment up and aren’t really that fast.
I understand the basics of safe boating but have a hard time conveying why they continually have failures.
I’ve tried explaining that running 70rpm is a bad idea and 8s powering a 2200kv motor isn’t save either but can specifically explain why in simple terms.
Any help or a link to an easy to understand explanation would be much appreciate.

Is it that you can swing a bigger prop and motor= higher speeds when you run 8s with a 1000kv vs a 4s 2000kv?
Ive told these guys the safe 30k zone but it falls on deaf ears as I can’t fully explain the reasons for their failure other than they are over amping and running too high rpm.

Actually, the chart is a handy rule of thumb for oval racers who need to rig for 6 + Mill + penalty laps with reliability. A few banzai runs or Straightline Time Trial [Actual SAW] may push these limits if one is willing to rebuild frequently.

Yes, this is generally true. Seen videos of exactly this but with the same prop, and the lover KV / Higher voltage had a higher RPM under load.
Too much current is the issue. The comes a point in electric motors where the electro-magnet winding approach magnetic saturation, where more current NOT= more magnetic field.
The lower KV motor can produce much more torque, which is what it takes to swing a large prop or more pitch. Lower KV setup for the same RPM target will also have lower current, which will make less heat as well.
Th higher KV the motor, the more sensitive it becomes to amp spikes. This is the result of the loading on the prop. Too much prop will make amp spikes will overheat and cook a system quickly.
