Bought my Elite 4800 lipos in May. Over the summer they were cycled approx 50 times. The performance has really dropped off. They are almost a full volt down under load compared to a new Lipo I just bought and they run warmer also. reminds me of an old Nimh pack. I really was careful with them the whole time. Are you guys seeing the same thing? What happened to the "hundreds of runs" I was supposed to get?
Hundreds of cycles?

When you say cycled approximately 50 times, is that being run in a boat or just cycled with the charger ?
A Nimh is never going to attain a higher voltage then a Lipo under load as a Nimh is only 7.2v whereas a Lipo is 7.4v.
This voltage drop with Nimh is very common and is why many boaters are going to Lipo, they are not as expensive, run better and are going to last alot longer.
As for your 50 cycles, Nimh's create what is known as a memory affect, this causes them to create thier own internal resistence which in the long run causes them to 'crap' themselves. This memory affect is actually dendrites forming within the cell, zapping your cells will fix this but why would you ?
Lipo's are the way to go

I have the same Elite cells and I have to double chk to make sure but I think they are not a full volt lower then when I first bought them... probably 1 year ago... more then 50 charges on them. I have abused them pretty good as well... I have two 4s and one 2s pack.:::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::Comment

Yes they are Elite 4800 Lipos. My point is they remind me of an old worn out Nimh pack. My question is are there people out there who are actually getting hundreds of good runs out of their Lipo packs.Comment

Yea they still work But I measured them under load (my high-tech string of lightbulbs) and they were almost a full volt under a brand new "Enerland Racing" hard case pack that I just got from RC/LiposComment

hehehehe, high tech is always the best way to go... almost always.
Well, are you comparing Elite cells to the mighty Enerland? Well... in that case...
you'll see a difference... Elites are good but Enerlands are a bit betta.:::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::Comment

Sorry about that
When the cells are not being used are you storing them at full charge ?Come to the FASST sideComment

What kind of currents where you running with them. What prop and motor combinations where you running?Comment

Almost all the runs were with my stock SV over the summer with a CF 45 prop most of the time. Never ran more than 5 minutes and the recharge mah was usually around 2600 mah on my Hyperion charger. As far as storage I did various things. They never really were stored for a long period but sometimes it was at full charge and sometimes I just put them away after they came off the boat.
One thing I should say about comparing them to my new Enerland battery--The Elite batteries put out the same type of voltage when new as the Enerland, so the thing I am wondering about is how these batteris, no matter who makes them, will last over time.Comment

A Lithium Polymere cell should always be stored at 30 - 50% capacity, whether it is in a pack or not.
Many new lithium polymere chargers have the discharge/storage option and lipos must always be stored correctly if you want to ensure a long life.
Even though your Elite pack may be a bit cruddy, give it a real harsh time. Run it hard and charge it at 4.8 amps (max). I have found that many of my lipos will come good again after a bit of abuse. Ironic is'nt it
