    Speedmaster Strut Installation

This is my first time using the Speedmaster strut for a Mean Machine I'm building my son for Christmas. I was wondering. To properly install the running gear, am I supposed to slide the 1/4" stuffing tube into the strut so that the bushing rides inside the stuffing tube?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

The 1/4" brass tube slides into the strut. And the bushing (brass with holes) is inside the strut. Which size cable are you using? With teflon liner or not?

the brass drive tube should stick out the transom just enough to go into the stinger bracket not the stinger tube. the brass bushing/sleeve goes into the stinger end. check out my df33 build it should help. http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...nti%27s+armada
The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

on the mean machine the stuffing tube does not come out the transom(can't run a stinger strut readily either)

I did not even read that he was doing a mean machine, REX is right, unless you are doing twins, one in each sponson.
As a single application, one in the middle, you would need a strut, not a stinger.

Ok 0.15 flex with teflon needs a 1/4" brass tube. The brass tube slides into the strut and to avoid water ingress you can apply externally a piece of heat shrink tubing (1.5" length) covering half part the brass tube and the other half the strut. This also mentioned with photos somewhere in the forum but don't remember where.

Okay guys. I am using the strut that most have been using on the MM. Looks like I've got everything right. Even though I'm not doing the stinger, I appreciate the info on it. I have a Fine Design set up on the Titan, but may consider a stinger on the next mono build.

with mine I wanted some room for adjusting the strut. so the stuffing tube ends 0.5" before the nose of the strut(the teflon runs into the strut) then I glued a piece of 1/4" brass into the strut leaving about an 1/8" space at the rear for the shaft bushing. then I put shrink tubing from the end of the stuffing tube to the nose of the strut. may not be the ideal solution, but it seems to work. hth
