Hi all looking for a motor upgrade for my jae 21 . At present im using a Leopard 3674 2200 kv with a Seaking 180 V3 esc with 6mm plugs with blue Turnigy 4s 5000 mah 40c lipo's giving me a speed of 64mph. I would to prefer to stay away from a Nue since im just running for fun . What motor brand and KV would be a possible for a upgrade to sqeeze a little more speed that would fit the original aluminum motor mount ? Regards Andris Golts.

Andris, you can go up to the 40 mm motor size with a kv of between 2200 and 2400. look at the T.P. motors of the 4050 and 4060 sizes , i wouldn,t go for the larger 4070 series as they are battery drainers. There is also other very good size motors for this rigger such as the Castle 1515-2200 and the HET-Typhoon 700-68-2250 which i run and like this motor very much as its got plenty of power and doesn,t drain the battery packs [ very efficient ] . all of these motors will bolt straight into your mount. -
A larger format motor is not required in the small, lightweight, easy to push JAE21. I have run a Castle 1415/1Y (2400 Kv) for years in mine, getting 12-second laps on the NAMBA oval with speeds in the upper 70s in oval trim. Leopards are not that good IME, try a Castle 1415/1Y, a TP3640/3Y or a TP3650/5D. Get a decent quality pack, remember that all the power in an FE boat is in the battery, not the motor. A cupped H-7 works for me, although one of the newer 17* ABC props may work even better.
How big is the pond the boat is running on? If it’s too small the boat will never be able to reach its true top speed.

Thanks to all for the great information Fluid the pond we run in is 1/2 mile wide and 2 miles in length they run .90 size nitro classes and large gas cats in this pond. Regards Andris Golts.Comment

I did try a Castle 1415-2400 in my jae-21/fe with h7 prop and the motor did seem to just suck out battery power quickly, swapped over to the Het 2250 motor and all was then great. I feel the 1415-2200 motor is a better choice than the 2400 model especially if your racing.Comment

They must have changed the mount then rol243, do the side cheeks come with concave ends now? Mine is an early one but to put a 40mm motor in mine for SAWs I had to file out the side cheeks of the mount quite a lot to get the fatter motor into the stock mount.Paul Upton-Taylor, Greased Weasel Racing.Comment
