1/4 flex shaft glue or solder?

I am building a sv43 59" (parts are ordered). Having never built a boat to this level before, I have a concern with how to do my flex shaft. I just received my drives from MHZ, and the drive has a nice deep well for the flex shaft to be secured ( glue or silver solder( the good stuff )). Is there a max wattage for glue?

Loctite 609 has worked for me with no issues.

Only concern looking at this Stinger Drive set up with the Stub Shaft glued or soldered to the flex is; what happens if the joint should part ? no more prop. i would personally be looking at silver soldering this stub to flex if it was mine. maybe the locktite is fine but i,ve never tried it.

I use loctite 648,
but I make a little hole (diam 1mm) down to the flex hole perpendiculary to this one to drain off the excess off loctite and the air and avoid the suction effect
the gluing is better

use tin solder, not silver solder you need heat up the flex and this is one is fragilized

how do join the flex on the motor ? don't forget to leave a gap between drive dog and stinger

I would use Loctite so long as there is a good fit between the parts and there is sufficient overlap of the shaft in the stub. The # Loctite to use will depend on the fit. If the cable barely squeezes in 648, if the fit is looser but no more than .25mm use 638.

The key is to a good bond is in the prep of the shaft and stub. Use ample amounts of Acetone or Brake cleaner (non-fluorinated) to throughly remove all the grease and oil. Allow to dry, apply a liberal amount of the Loctite to the shaft and down in the pocket and quickly push the two together.

Have a paper towel ready to wipe off the excess. I also recommend marking on the flex shaft where the shaft bottoms out in the stub so you have a visual clue to know the shaft is bottomed during the bonding process.

Be sure to check the fit of the shaft and stub. If it is too loose solder or Loctite will not hold.
