Teflon liner won't slide into stuff tube

Any suggestions of what the best/easiest way is too insert a teflon liner into the stuffing tube? I have the right one for my TC31, but it just won't go in all the way... I tried heating the brass stuff tube to get it to expand and cooling the liner, and applying all kinds of lubricants, but to no avail...

I and many have had that problem, the best solution for me was sanding the insert until it fits...
it does not require much sanding...

Better yet throw it in the bin and go bare back.

Yes Jan I agree. As well as not running a liner. Seriously though I do not use a linner in any of my boats and they run free and dry. The only problem I have had is some flex shaft slap in the Whiplash. I have since replaced with a wire drive in the same stuffing tube and no slap and still dry.

Very cool Andy... I am yet to master the art of wire drive driven hulls... I have no grip on my coupler.
            Sorry, back to topic.
I don;t use a liner in any of my boats, all I have to do is make sure that I dry the flex after the boating day is over so no rust will creep... but that goes for liners as well.

Teflon doesn't run very tight tolerances so they always vary. But you are always better with it tight than loose.

First stretch it out a bit. Then cut a angle on the end thats going in first.

The last teflon that I had trouble with I just put the teflon in the freezer for 15 minutes and it just slide right in but you have to be quick or it will warm up and get stuck ( just pull out and freeze again) I have also sanded the out side with sand paper and that worked also

How do you run without a liner? Doesn't the brass stuff tube get extremely hot from friction of metal-to-metal? If I take out the liner for my 3/16" shaft, what size flex shaft will fit the stuff tube snugly and prevent water from coming in through the tube?

Although I've lately been running linerless on some of my boats, when I had probs inserting a liner this is how I've done it : Make sure you have plenty of excess length to start with [ about 2" on each end], then grip both ends in pliers or vice grips & strrrretch it out; slide it in & trim the ends. Worked for me !

I use the same method. Just stretch it slowly and check for fitment as you go along. Still not fitting, then stretch some more.
