I went looking for 35-220 caps and found ( my guess ) is they are not made any more. The esc is 80 amp ztw with 35-220m caps and my ? is 35v-470 the next step up and will make a cap bank of 3- 470 be to much, thanks before hand?! 35v-220 x 3 = 660 while 3- 470 = 1410 totals!

I forgot to mention, i'll be running 3S in airboat and 24" mono and after I bought the esc, I looked to see if it was boat or air, 80 amp is the size I needed as I have a 150 and a 120 ampers. I went for a pixsit which allows air esc to be a boat esc. I made my own cooling for esc with aluminum sheet and away I went. I was reading and took a second look and saw the low caps which air craft do not need big caps and boats need bigger caps as the load is quite a bit higher. Oops I talk to much and if I need a correction, say so, ok!Comment

I’ve used 1000uf caps for years on oval and SAW ESCs, they do work well. In theory smaller caps may work better for reduction of ripple currents as they will charge faster. I have used a 5000uf cap on AQ60 ESCs with good success too. Smaller may work better, don’t know.

Smaller caps with the same total capacitance value work better compared to a large single due to heat dissipation in the caps. Heat is the enemy of caps so being able to dissipate more heat improves their efficiency and hence ability to manage the ripple voltage.Tyler Garrard

As long as were on "Caps" here is how I made a bank out of 2 Rubicon 35v 1000uf caps in parallel on a Flycolor 150 esc. Any opinions welcome here as I may not have correct engineering.
I ran my 4S rigger with a 1415 Castle and checked temps after the run. Motor was 105 degrees. ESC 90, caps on esc 95, and the homebrew cap bank were 120 degrees. Any ideas why "cap bank" was warmer?

As per Tyler's response above, smaller capacitance and more caps, my 4s mono setup on a castle 1512 I run an extra 5x 32v560 on a 32.150 esc and the caps stay relatively cool.

Rewording my deleted post. Ok, I want to add 2 more caps to already caps in place. Caps are 35v-470uF and need an answer for size of wire for extra caps that go from caps to main power cords of esc. Thanks for info on this subject. We learn every day and thiis is no exception!Comment

Norwest here. To HOT to boat today as it is 95! Ok if a esc already has 2 35-1000 caps and your funds are wiped out, could you for added caps use 2 35-500 caps as they will be the same total of original of 1 of caps in place? I would say yes but lets hear from you posters.Comment

Higher voltage is not always better. You want caps rated about 25% higher than the voltage you are running. For the same package size increasing the voltage reduces the capacitance.
I recommend 25V caps for 4S, 35V caps for 6S and lower. 50V caps for 10S and lower, 63V caps for 12S and 80V caps for 14S.
The Rubycon ZL and ZLH are the recommend caps for our use. The RX30's are rated at higher temps, but don't have the lowest ESR compared to the ZL's.Tyler Garrard
