    FE whiplash owners/builders

Any of you building FE whiplash 20's or 40's....care to share build pics or info?
I am about 3/4 done with my whip 20: Feigao 11xl, 6s setup. Balance point is the hardest thing to figure out...but motor placement where the nitro motor was designed for, and lipos behind seem to work for me soo far....this being said, balance point is 3/8" behind sponson which is about the closest I could get it...still have not run it though.
    Care to share your ideas?

    Thanks, and happy boating.

The Whiplash likes a lot of weight in the nose. You need to be able to move the CG farther forward.

There are a number of build photo's on the web, but Rodney Pierce's over on IW is probably the most detailed set of photo's.

    All the best,

    Ray

      Patrick,

Thank you for your PM. I will send some info to your e-mail. Your motor choice on 6S is excellent, reasonable amp draw and RPM relating to a good size prop for the boat. But I'll bet most on this forum are asking, Why 6S in a 4S boat? I have 6S in mine, but it's a SAWS boat spinnin way too many RPM, and it still needs 10 oz. added to the nose.

      All the best,

      Ray

Ray, thanks for the message back...and looking forward to the info on your white boat.
In answer to your question..I am using 6s and feigao 11XL in the whip 20 mainly for the dollar value. Some might not agree, but it is easier to make the power (watts) to get to the 50-60 mph range using the cheaper brushless, Feigao and 6s lipo. I would Love to put a neu 1515 or 1521 in this hull and run with the fast guys, such as Raydee and his whiplash, or brian blazer and his record setting whip (hope you guys don't mind the name drop, but frankly I don't have the money to invest in that range of motor at this time...nor do I in the near future. I run for sport, and to get my boat in the range of the neu's with 4s lipo....a feigao 11XL and 6s will get me there no problem. I have run this for a long time in most of my boats...a scaled up finlay shovenose, several riggers and it is fast and affordable. (the only pain is having to charge 2 lipos, rather than one 4s lipo).
I have run an 8Xl and 4s lipos, in many of my boats as well. and it runs sooo hot, lipo, motor esc...all of it...even with water cooling. running 3s in series...is very efficient and gives a ton of power with literally no heat issues at all....I enjoy taking corners, as much as I do just punching it and watching the hydro launch, using 6s. just my two cents...based on keeping things affordable.

Long reply I know...Hope this answers any questions...and feel free to ask any others...or give input..I am always open to input on a hydro build. pics to come soon.

Your rationale is outstanding. I think many of us are re-thinking RPM's vs torque. The age old small block vs big block argument.

3S heli packs are gettin cheap.

Fast guys? My Whip is slow

My only concern with running 6s is that some ESC's can't handle the voltage even though they claim they can. I went to a HV controller on my 6s Hydro for that reason.

              Ray, thank you...I appreciate it.
Indeed 3s packs are extremely cheap. I have been running zippy, and rhino lipos from unitedhobbies. The rhinos are simply rebadged zippy-h lipos. They are enerland cells, and I have had extremely great results with them. Back to our rpm/torque discussion...you can't go wrong with an 8xl, or even a 7xl in a small (under 24") boat..and still use 4s to get extremely good results...but in terms of 30" and longer hulls....it just won't cut it, at all.
In, my boat building career...I have discovered a small, but easy equation. (now some of you might not agree, but this has worked for me hands down everytime...given that the boat is setup properly). To get the speed you want...you need to obtain the watts, equal to what speed you want to reach. I have found....50 watts... (49 to be exact) in my big heavy finlay shovelnose....gets me to just about 52 mph in a straight line. In my rigger, a 26" hull length ...the same 50 watts or close to it, gets me around 56 since it is such a light boat. This has all been obtained with feigao 11xl, 6s lipos (2. 3s rhino lipos in series) and an m447 prop...sharpened and balanced. I have yet to even try the x640 but on its way soon....and this should...send me into the upper 60s. The equation I have figured out is easy....produce the watts, based on the speed you want and you should hit it. just my two cents again...any and all input would be greatly appreciated here...and feel free to elaborate ....I know there are many electronic guru's out there...waiting to chime in.

Raydee....your whip is not slow, by any means...I have seen your vids....that thing is on rails...just as your phil thomas hull......you run for sport..but those boats are fast! for sure.

I realize...I had a major mistype on my last post......what I meant to say was, AMPS=mph....I wrote watts and have no clue how that brain fart happened!
