Ok Craig all respect will be given hear I am not out to disrespect anyone I am hear to learn because I'm not rolling in cash and cant afford to waste a bunch of money making mistakes on the trial and error method if ya know what I mean. Aside from this forum the only thing I have to rely on is the RC boat calculator. Some here swear by big can low kv big prop others are smaller can high kv smaller prop. the one person says 4070 1220 kv the calculator says I would have to run X665 on 6s to hit 60mph. Thank you all for your time and Fluid I hope I didn't offend you. I do realize that the wealth of knowledge and experience with some of you is priceless and commands to utmost respect.

Ignoring others suggestions when I first came around here, I put a bunch of money into a spartan (my first boat) like 4 years ago. It ended up going airborne around 55 mph and ripped the entire top half of the hull apart from the bottom half, and went to the bottom (luckily in shallow water). That being said, I wouldn't put anymore money into an almost 40" plastic boat, but that's because of my past experience.Comment

Just to chime in I am presently experimenting with a variety of motors to get my Q-Mono ready for Atlanta and the Michigan FE Nats. I was running an 1100 Kv motor with an Octura X457 and then X460 looked to be running about 65 Mph in heat trim. (Btw...won the last 2 events with this 1100 Kv set-up) I recently changed to an 1180Kv motor and went slightly faster, unfortunately no Gps numbers as this info is simply from heat racing. I would think with your cat would have less draw than the my 39" mono so you should see at least those speeds or even higher with that combo. Those calculators do have merits, but hard to beat actual race feedback. I would recommend trying that 1220Kv that you mentioned and a larger prop Vs the high Rpm small prop set-up, unless you are just sport running. Understand too that the heat set-ups typically only give you maybe 3 minute run time, 4 minutes if you set it up for an offshore event.

The traxxas m41 I don't think will like one of those big props (50mm) . I you are have a good run with the 1800kv stock motor and the x642 on 6s. I would try a 1650kv 4060tp and a m545 or the 1570kv 4050 and m545 or m645 on 6s. The 4060 would be my 1st choice.Comment

I run on a fresh water lake it's pretty smooth unless it's windy so the hull didn't see much abuse however from what I've been seeing and reading 60mph comfortable and 65 is most likely max. The Traxxas M41 is a pile of crap and had it not been new unopened and cheap I would have went another route but I feel it will be a good starter boat to experiment with. I've had other boats all under 40mph so I have some experience. I probably won't put too much more in this one and from here I will search for another hull to build on. It is a fun boat and I will run it until the hull separates then start over. Reinforcing is out of the question other then blowing insulfoam into the front half and I know that will help but is not a cure. The hull is 2 piece upper and lower with a 1/4" overlap seam that is glued so honestly I don't expect it to last long. I haven't had any blow overs yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time as I keep pushing it.Comment

I suggested the lower kV 1650 4060 because I have learned lower kV is much easier on the electronics.
The 1650kv combine with a m545, m645 should pull amps in the same area as the 1800kv x642 setup.
But the m545 is a faster prop than the 642 and the tp 4060 will hold the rpm better underload. So I feel by reason of prop efficiency and motor efficiency. You should see better speeds than what you did before.Comment

Those traxxas boats were designed specifically with breaking down in mind to generate them tons of $$$
It's a good business model, I'm sure.
Why else would anyone design a $400+ plastic boat with plastic prop that lasts like 1 day, which also completely fills up with water every time you take it out...
And then there's their crap traxxas lipos...Comment
