    Lakes in Miami ?

Anyone know of any good lakes in Miami for FE in general? Or even SAW...

Moved here from Cali recently. Noticed theres more "PRIVATE" lake water out here than anything.

Any OSE guys from Florida or Miami area?

NAMBA district 3 Miami Racing Association, Amelia Earhart park, must be member to run there, nice lake raced there years ago. Broward club used to run in CB Smith park in west Hollywood, not far depending where in Dade you are, if you can still run there? Check Google earth for drainage ponds in office and or industrial complexes , they're usually empty on week ends. Many local parks have ponds check with park staff see if you can run there. Ask local hobby shops? good luck

Caution: Warning: Danger: safety first, in and around S. Fla. ponds you may encounter, gators and or cotton mouth / water moccasin snakes. Gators are easy enough to spot they are big enough to see and will mostly leave you be. The snakes ARE aggressive and hide very well in tall grass and weeds along pond edge they will go after you. Be very wary of the snakes very deadly.

Deadly snakes? Just how deadly and common are we talking about... Anything I should pack just in case?

I live in sunny isles beach, I was thinking to this lake... doesn't seem to have a name: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/25.9...a=!4m2!4m1!3e0
but it doesn't look private. Seems to have some condo buildings scattered around it but with lots of open areas for access

I find it rather strange that with so much lakes out here that they would have this much restrictions in place, especially for the parks. Probably better off sticking around unless someone says to go

Yeah, water moccasin’s are no joke, and they are a’plenty! They have the characteristic diamond shaped heads, as all venomous snakes have. They swim away usually, except when they are nesting. During that time, they are extremely aggressive. The young snakes are aggressive too. Having a snake bite kit would be prudent.

That’s too bad about the water... I was always getting chased out when I lived in California, running my nitro boat. It leaves oil in the water... My FE leaves no oil or grease. I even sealed my strut, so it’s squeaky clean. Sometimes you have to stretch it a bit, and say you live in the neighborhood. I don’t like doing that, and haven’t needed to in Tulsa, OK, but some folks get uppity! If you’re running gas or nitro, then you may be limited to waters that clubs go to, and join a club.

are they found mostly on the outskirts / swamps of big cities like maimi? or are we talking residential areas, etc.

if anything, theres plenty of nice and calm bay water

Even in your swimming pools, if you live near to canal, pond, drainage ditch, swamp, epically around un kept areas along the water. No worries there is plenty anti venom around, stick to well worn hi use areas and keep your eyes open. Hay on a high note at least the scorpions down theres sting is no worse than a bees.

Yes, there are snakes but you're more likely to find or run into nasty people telling you to get off their property than encountering these water moccasins. They are mostly active in the warmer months and mostly mate in early summer but mating can continue through the warmer months of the year. Their young are born around August-September. But they seldom bite humans unless disturbed or handled. Still be careful. I've been in the Tampa area for about 9yr plus and only have seen them up close 5 times. The first time was when we got here and it was raining and a bit cold and my son and I caught one and put it in a bucket. We didn't know that it was poisonous until our neighbors told us to get away from it. We were lucky it was cold and lethargic otherwise they said we would have been bitten. My wife said we're not allowed to catch and play with snakes anymore but we still catch and play with only the black racers. Then my neighbors found a bunch of baby water moccasins by their front door. Other than that I've seen more gators and turtles than snakes. . .Still it's best to be careful until you've familiarize yourself with your surroundings in your area that you plan to run your boats in. Welcome to Florida Dmitry. . . .
