watt meter

Has any one here used this before a Watt meter and power analyzer. or is there another one that is being used. I thought this would help testing props and motors at the same time not burning up the old ESC. any thoughts on this. Or is this thing capable of the power that the boats use?

The watt meter is ok, its a more basic way of telling the readings while on the water. Because it only gives a give you a max reading. Its a great tool for bench testing motors and batteries.

Thanks for the help I guess it's the eagle tree it seems to do a lot more and the charger I need to get I have made up my mind. Looks like I'm going to have to spend some money here in this store. The one thing that I'm having proplems with is Li-Po batterys there are so many. how many C and how may mah and from $ to $$$$$$$$$$$ I need to go sniff some 65% nitro it sucks being the only guy around here that likes boats dam T-maxxes any way and now the lake has gone hard for the winter

I would suggest before you spend $$$$$$ on top brands, just so that you make your own experience and you kill few packs, go for some cheap Zippy's at UH or even cheaper on e bay, get at least some 20C (constant not burst!!!), once you understand everything about Lipo's (storage, charging, balancing...) get some good ones!

A lot of people on this forum have had very good luck with the Elite cells on rclipos. They are great cells for the cost of them.

What if I have 2 packs of 2 cells and run this in my boat, can I change to 2 packs of 3 cells without changing the ESC setting

The battery packs you are asking about are only 20c, almost everyone agrees that your packs should be 25c or better.
As for your ESC that would depend on which ESC you are using.

Cheap battery packs

I had to open my big mouth about CheapBattery Packs. I have been doing business with them for a couple of years. I have a couple of 2s 4800mAh Elite batteries I have been using all summer, they are just fine.
I got 2 3s 4800 Elite batteries from him. On the first run one of the cells puffed and the pack failed. There were burn marks through the wrapping where wires attach to the cells. He had me return the pack, when he got a look at it he told me I had shorted the leads and caused the damage. He sold me a new back at his cost and returned the "ruined" pack, I paid postage. OK
While that was going on the second 3s pack failed in the same way. There were burn marks where the negative lead attaches also.

I was an electronics teck in the USArmy, I fixed high power radio transmitters, and I was a communications teck later on

I opened the ruined pack and found a melted connection between the sub cells. Each Cell is composed of 3 sub cells, each sub cell has a tab extending from each end, these tabs are connected by a piece of metal about 1/8" wide by 0.003(thinner than a piece of paper) very small. The connection between the tab with the wire connected to it and the rest of the battery was melted. You can see the melted piece and the burn mark on the pack where the tabs were folded up against the pack. You can see that the 2 tabs on the right are very close together and where the failure occurred there was a much larger gap. The second pack was the same way, and on the positive end too(the same end). I found that on the other end where the cells are connected to the next cell in the battery that solder bridges that thin piece of metal no problems there.
My solution was to solder the 3 sub cell tabs to a battery bar (Elite battery bar, by coincidence) And connect the wire to the battery bar (As in the second photo).
My boat is pulling about 125Amps on 6s, and I have had no further problems with the batteries. FWIWorth

OK let me get this strait, I trade the smell of my 65% nitro for the smell of burned batterys and ESC OK now I get it I need a second job.

I have a 32" cat with feirgoa brushless 9XL with coolong jacket ESC is a Hydra 120 prop is 42mm. for play I would like to run 2 pacs of 2 cells for some fun I would like to run 2 packs of 3 cells Now can I just put the 3 cell packs in and go or do I have to reprogram the ESC I miss my flow meter. I got this boat of spot me 2 I cant go out and test or play for some time as the water here has gone hard So I will be watching the thred on this boat head of the river. Thanks for all your help guys like I said I'm the only one up here so there is on one to ask OK I know I might have go to bigger prop for 3cell packs thats why I'm asking and reading
