Found Great New Course in Tulsa, OK!

Found a great new course in a sub division that doesn’t have any building on it yet! This is a perfect 1/6mi course... I’m heading out in a few minutes to run 3 boats, Vortex 34 Hydro, Skater32 Cat and the newest boat, a UL-1. Going to try and get video using my head mounted camera.. That’s been a learning curve..

Let’s see some pics of your favorite place to run, give us a chance to see things thru other eyes!

Well, the new track wasn’t so sweet on Day 1. It is very muddy, we just had big time rains. The sides are just gooey, sticky mud. I launched the first boat, UL-1 from some small rocks they put in by one of the drainage pipes. I was worried about submerged rocks, so I gave the boat a good toss out there... But not far enough! It hit a rock, knocked the rudder back just a bit. I got wet shoes getting it. So I went to the muddy sides because I couldn’t see any rocks, except at the drainage pipes. That mud was a mess! By now, I’m not a happy camper! But I got it launched. The boat took off great, but I didn’t get over enough to give myself room for a good turn. The boat was moving fast, I just put a bigger, Prather S220 on it. I shorted the turn and ran it up the side! Damn! It didn’t hit anything hard, but was moving pretty good and the transom at the rudder bracket broke a previous repair lose. So much for boat 1...

So I put the Skater32 in there, and the radio kept losing reception at the far end... Damn! It also was spinning on every turn, much worse than the last time I ran it. I had raised the strut a bit more... I did learn something... Those high strut settings make the boat zip-zip good, but the prop is coming out of the water and unhooking on the turns. On the last run around, the boat flipped in the corner.. I said no way I’m putting my prized boat, Vortex 34 in there!

When I got home, I put in a radio with an external antenna receiver. I also lowered the strut so the centerline of the propshaft is on line with the back of the sponsons. Hoping to try that tomorrow. I’m going back to my old place until this pond dries the sides a bit! Oh well, you gotta try!

Oh I hate those days, but at least you are one step closer on the Skater. Mind you it sounds a couple back on the Hydro. Hope it dries out for you.

I’ve got the back of the UL-1 cut open. I’m going to epoxy an aluminum chunk in there, then cover that side of the transom with a 1/16” aluminum plate. I don’t like the stock rudder for this boat, the linkage is holding the rudder down, won’t let it swing up on an impact. I’ve got another one coming, but it’s on the big side. Going to have to do some widdeling to get it to fit. So that’s on a slow track right now. Might get to run the Skater and a Vortex tomorrow, keeping fingers crossed on weather.

I’m starting to figure out how to work my GoPro and software on the PC. Getting closer to a vid... The speed on that UL-1 kinda surprised me! The Cat sucked on corners, but had good straight speed with an ABC1716-17-45 on it. That boat is on 6s 2p, 10,000mah. The motor is Leopard4082 1450kv. The Cat is a tough one to figure out for overall good course performance.

                    Trying playing with battery placement.
I have a skater also, it very different handling for me. I been use to drifting the corners with my Miss Geico.

Oh man I guess I should get me a Skater. I’ve been liking the look for awhile now. Sounds like a challenge, lol
