talk to obrien he has done a few tunnels

the XL might be a bit tall for an o/b
most guys run the stock SV27 set up for tunnels
The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

I'm also building the VS1. I'll be using the SV27 motor and ESC as soon as the new one's available. I also considered the 9xl, but thought it would be too tall.

Here is my top speed II on 8xl. The xl motors actually worked better for me because of weight for balance point.

If I was going to build a tunnel that size, I would do it to run in the OPC spec class with the SV motor and esc. However if it was just to play with, I woud opt for a higher KV motor that will turn up some higher rpms than a 9xl will. you can cetainly turn a larger prop with the 9xl, but the VS1 is a smaller tunnel so you don't need the power of a larger motor. If anything I think I would go with the ammo 2300 on 4s. that will probably be plenty fast and it will take a little bit of time to get it dialed in.

Keep in mind that with the 3.5cc size lowers you will be limited on diameter. With the larger 8 and 9xl motors you will want more diameter to get the most performance.

What setup does you dad have?

Well on 3s, I would say that you are looking at a low 30 mph boat, on 6s who knows what it will really do. You probably will have a hard time keeping it on the water. 4s is going to be the best all around. Not too mention, you may not be able to get 6s in the boat.

I think that you will be limited to a max diameter of 40mm with the outboard, if I'm not mistaken. I have the carbon lower leg from Fullers in front of me and that's the measurement I'm getting. Maybe someone could verify this. I haven't assembled anything yet.

maxx he wasn't refering to the motor diameter. He is saying that you will be limited on prop diameter, which is what you will need with the larger low KV motor.
