    Turnigy Aquastar 240 amp ESC

I purchased two of these believing they were just rebadged Hifei Swordfish HV 240 amp models, however, there are external differences like four cooling tubes (not eight as on the Hifei) and relocated capacitors. On the hifei the capacitors are exposed while on the Turnigy they are under the shrinkwrap. Perhaps the Turnigy is a release of an earlier Hifei model as it does not have datalogging (not important to me at this stage).

Also not obvious was the lack of reverse direction. Programming the Turnigy Aquastar could be an issue as per usual Hobbyking are out of stock of their dedicated programming box (looks similar to the Hifei model) and online instructions refer to a CD for software plus a supposedly included (but not included) "Y" lead needed to programme the ESC if using a computer.

The HV ESC is factory defaulted to 4s which does seem absurd as who would pay a premium to get a high voltage ESC and only use it on 4s. The Hifei programming card has fine print on the instructions that it cannot change the factory default setting from 12 volt when programming. Apparently it can change the other parameters. Thus one is limited to manual transmitter programming or hopefully achieve some joy with a computer. Had I known such limitations I would have shied away from both brands.

you could have got away with buying 2 x 220 amp Swordfish esc,s for under the price you paid for the 2 x Aquastars.. anyway i am sure Hobby King will have the suitable card back in stock soon before you new hull is ready for electronic set ups.
there were 2 swordfish esc,s on r/c trader going for $90 au each, 1 x 220 amp and 1 x 240 amp both unused. missed out bugger.

The problem with the 220 amp model is that it is limited to 6s. Knowing my son he will want at least 8s and most likely higher.

          Buy one a while ago.
As far as I could tell, it's an old SW240A. No data collection.
I reprogrammed it with a Hobbyking USB. That is identical to the USB of Hifei.
I was able to reprogram the variator to taste. If you use a servo Y harness.
The CD file, download it from this same forum.
Do not be disappointed, just try to program them.
          Excuse my english, greetings.

Many thanks, your English is fine. Hobbyking make both a linker (usb) and a programmer (usb). I believe that the linker is like the Hifei model. I have the programmer usb and am awaiting a linker usb from China. I am also awaiting some servo 'Y' connectors from the local Hobbyking wharehouse before I can attempt any programming.

Many thanks for the additional information. The HK linker referred to I am awaiting from China. My ESC has the caps hidden under the shrinkwrap (I am awaiting additional Hifei caps to fit) and my version only has two cooling pipes at either end. Once again many thanks for your help.

I am thinking of applying some Kafuter thermal silicone to waterproof the ESC.
