I've had no problems whatsoever with the REK on both of my TS-2's, but would like some input on what to use on the new build. The Lawless & O.S. are rather pricey, so I'm thinking of the Hyperformance Angle Drive, although a thread on the Red forum from a few years ago mentioned that its setback might cause handling [hooking] probs ; I intend to use the HiJack mount, which does set back the drive some as it is. Any ideas, guys ?

My opinion is to pick what you want to use, and use it all ALL of your tunnels... If you are happy with the REK, then that's a natural choice.
My choice is a Lawless with my modifications done to it, but that's just because I like things to be the same across my fleet of boats... If I had started with an OS, I'd be using an OS...
From a performance standpoint, the K&B and the OS are suppose to have the lowest drag of all of them... though I think the LawLess is right there also...
From a getting/keeping spares standpoint, I'd go with either another REK, or the LawLess. The OS uses a different stub-shaft assembly that won't fit the other two.
I don't know anything about the Hyperdrive unit, but I think it may use the same stubs as the REK as well...
I think any of them can be made to perform... It's kid of a matter of just picking your poison... and there is nothing wrong with sticking with the REK...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

I'm still staring at the naked hull waiting for inspiration for the box. I guess the place to start is to mount the motor/drive to get a fix on the height requirements to pass wires & linkages through. Am open to suggestions/plans.2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap

A quick tip for those of you running REKs...
I found on mine that eventually, taking the stub in and out for maintenance compresses the seat area where the stub, well... seats (the plastic at the lower end of the lower end...)... This causes, at least on mine it did, the stub to seat a little too deep and it would bind up.
To prevent this, I used some good epoxy (I used MAS FLAG) that will flow a bit, and after cleaning the connical recess in the stub VERY thoroughly and drying, I put some epoxy in it to fill in the void some. NOT all the way... just enough to prevent the stub from seating so far into the lower unit. The natural properties of the epoxy cause a meniscus to form (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meniscus) and when dried the it forms a new connical seat, just not as deep...
Works wonderfully... and I think increases the lifespan of the lower end if you take the stub in and out as often as I do...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

Darin, I have only removed the stub a few times; I've been afraid that the cable won't mate back in the square & compress the cable as you tighten it since you can't see the mating if the top end [motor] is in place . Also the flats on the stub are not easy to fit a wrench into [until I thin out a open end wrench on the grinder, I guess]. I pull the motor & flexshaft to grease the shaft occasionally, but normally flood the leg with WD or Corrosion X through the pinhole. BTW, you had some better stubs at the Nat's; which ones were they ?
Randy, I'll call you today; I think I'll get the Hyperformance leg just to check it out [ there's something about it that appeals to me, not sure what but I just want to have one !]
I'm not in a big rush to get this boat rigged ; next OPC Spec race for me will be WW V, I guess, plus the UB/Darin/SJFE TS-2 is finally mostly dialed in & I 'm having a ball fun-running it !2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap
