    low voltage cutoff

been messing around with low voltage cutoffs. with my low draw, cheap boats, I might be able to get away with one. but not my high draw setups. I wrote to Revolectrix to get their advice on the recommendation of setting the lvc to 3 volts. this first email is what I sent to revolectrix. second email is revolectrix response. any ideas why they would be so reckless in their advice?? 1st email: i run your 420 go packs 5s and 3s in various boats. purchased a cellshield lvc from dimension engineering. set it for 3.5v shutoff. kept hitting the shutoff so i contacted the manufacturer. they said they use 3 volts in their planes. if i set it for 3 volts i will kill my batteries. is 3 volts too low for your batteries? is 3 volts good for planes but not boats? thanks 2nd email: Good Day,

You will be good to go at 3.0 volts, thanks.

    Sincerely,

Most pack makers recommend to not discharge a cell below 3.0 volts. But, that requires an LVC which is accurate and quick acting. Planes discharge packs much more slowly than most boats, giving the LVC time to decide the voltage is low and shut off.

With the known poor accuracy/performance of many LVCs, I would use a higher cutoff than 3.0. Personally I usually set mine for 3.4 volts, but I never hit it even with very high amp setups. I either run race heats of under two minutes or I time my runs.

Contact John at [email protected] he would know best. I run the 420 silver's and find the temps spike at 3.6v and I don't run them any lower than that also at that voltage I'm around 20%mah left so my run is done either way. LVC's can't be trusted and 30sec more is not worth it anyway. I set my LVC to 3.4 and my LV alarm to 3.7 and bring it in after my timed run if it's not beeping after sitting for a min I'll go another pass or two.

So they say to set it above 3.0v and closer to 3.3v but I still think that's to low....

          low voltage cutoff

this is the dimension engineering unit. worked with my 3s 10,000 mah setup. cutoff at 3.5 yielded 3.75 resting voltage.P1010047.jpgP1010046.jpg

Never relied on a LVC...never will...do the math and time your runs.
