    NiMh question

I did something I normally dont do with my packs. I ran a set real hard and practically to dead in the E-Maxx today. They were hot but not that hot, got 12 hard miniutes on the 7.2v IB3600 packs. I let them cool, then charged them at 1c 3.6amps. The charger shut off, I go and disconnect the packs and hear PISSST.. ut oh then another PISSST had to be a cell or cells venting. I never heard it before. Are the cells that may have vented shot? Thanks

From my understanding they make a vent in all recharge able batterys you can see this vent on any rechargeable battery like AA or AAA. The vent is useually on the + side there will be a little hole by the terminal. When you comparit to a regular none rechargable youll see it. Im still new to this but from what I have heard they should be fine they were just releasing preasure that was built up in the cell/s. If they didnt put that vent in then you would have had a nice little NimH bomb in your hand or boat.

Ran the packs in the SV today. Ocean your probly right, they do seem fine. If they lost any punch or MAH it sure is not much. I notice no differnce, so most likely all is fine.

NiHM cells WILL vent easily if abused. Any time a cell vents it permanently loses capacity and voltage - the gas/fluid was in the cell for a reason. It may just be a little, but the cell will never be the same. That cell will now run out of voltage before the rest in the pack, and it may reverse its polarity the next time the pack dumps. Take better care of that pack and it may work okay for play use for a long time.

I always time my packs and charge them easy, for some reason I just lost my mind and ran them into the ground then charged them hard, this hard treatment has to be the cause because I never heard them vent before. I normally stop any run well before I know the packs capacity is up, then let them rest and cool and charge them easy at 2 amp. I may have lost a tiny bit of punch or mah but definatly not enough for me to notice for sure. I wont be abusing the packs anytime soon again. Every once in a while I act like a kid...hehehe I need a new toy or maybe a G/F.
