Swordfish 120A Pro ESC Programming Box

Maybe a dumb question but i'm not exactly sure of the correct way to plug in the hand-held program box for my Swordfish 120a ESC. The box did not come with any manual/instructions. Ok, do you simply plug the ESC directly into the 3 prong slot on the program box then hook up a battery pack to the ESC (in my case a 3s Lipo pack)?? Or do i need to plug the ESC into the radio receiver, use the supplied cable to plug into the receiver battery slot and out to the program box? Thanks!

Pretty sure when I programmed mine a few weeks ago I just plugged the esc into the programmer and then plugged the battery into the esc.
