    twin electric rigger

Hi all, I'm keen on building a twin rigger. I need a little help with the boat in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxRWXDSbB5E . Does anyone know if this is an off the shelf hull or a custom? and it says on the comments the motors are two 4092's 2200KV on 6s...... does it look like 49000RPM? I'd appreciate any opinions....or suggestions on hulls etc for a twin rigger setup. Many thanks R.B.

    R.B.,

This is likely a custom built rigger as are most electric twin riggers. The motors may be 4092's, but I do not think they are 2200kv like the one comment mentions. That would be awfully hot for the props I saw on the back of the boat. Probably 1650kv or 1400kv.

If you want to build a twin rigger I would suggest you build a JAE twin tub from Zip Kits and fit it with 4S motors. You will need to be an experienced builder to tackle this kit.

That could be a commercial hull but I don't recognize it. Not surprising, few low-production European hulls are well known in NA.

To me it it looks like they could be 2200 Kv motors. The props don't look over 50 mm, and we don't know the temperature of the electronics after the run. It only ran for around 80 seconds, everything inside could be very hot. Who knows - that is one problem with YouTube, the motors may have overheated and never run right again, the packs may have puffed, or the boat could have burst into flames three seconds after the video ended. Too, the rpm would not be 49,000, my experience with 2200 Kv motors on 6S is under load the rpm would be closer to 40,000. Rpm estimates from a video are tough with a twin. So are speed estimates, who knows if the boat actually ran 100 mph.

While the boat looks very fast, today a 100 mph rigger is not that rare. You don't need twins to get there either, the challenge is to find a suitable hull. If the OP wants a fast rigger I strongly recommend he start with a ZipKits JAE21FE single motor rigger. Mine set up for oval heat racing runs a 2400 Kv motor on 4S topping out in the upper 70s on the oval averaging just over 100 amps. The same setup tuned for top speed would be in the 90s or perhaps a bit more. That with a commercial hull, relatively inexpensive components and no need for the cost and complexity of twins.

These boats are very very fast and take awhile to get used to driving. Twins are very cool and an FE twin hydro is on my build list - sometime in the future. But they are not for first time rigger builders IMO.

A twin 4s rigger isn't legal for competition in IMPBA. It would be legal for NAMBA though.

RB I also think that start building a comercial hull is the right place to be. I've been playing with twin's nitro and now Fe and of course they double the pleasure when everything is well tuned but it takes lot of experience, experiments and money to get there so listen to what was said and you will have lot of fun too...here is the link of my twin rigger https://youtu.be/NX9d-SZlXik

I have a custom twin Andy brown SGX rigger designed off of his .21 hull. It is a 4S boat w/ twin NEU 1415/1Y's. On Andy's recommendation the boat does NOT have counter rotating props (I trust he knows his stuff) This boat hauls the mail at 70+mph in race trim and much to my surprise without the counter rotating props it tracked perfectly straight. I chose the 14 series instead of 15's to keep the hull as narrow as possible without jamming the motors in there. I run 2 4s 5000mah packs, 1 for each side. I have run stock 1450's, pitched up 1450's, and stock 1650's. It ran the best with pitched up 1450's and used about 3500mah on 7 laps. I ran 2 castle 240 speedos but I am changing it to 2 seaking 180's, I believe they will handle the load w no issue and they are just a cleaner nicer setup inside the boat. If you're interested and want this boat I would definitly sell it. It will NOT BE CHEAP. Text me at 917-417-0241 if you are at all interested. Oh BTW I also had a pair of NEU 1421 .75Y's that I had custom made for this boat, they have the same KV as the 14151Y. My though was that If I wanted more speed but didn't want to change the props these would provide the Umph!!! They proably have another 4-500 watts of power over the 1415's!!!! so with 2 of them another 800-1000 watts!!! I've never installed them in the boat but I have used them in a car for a few runs so they are not brand spanking new. BTW I stole this idea of the twin rigger with the 1415's from Brian Buass, and I drew up the idea and sent it to Andy Brown and he built the boat, so I really can't take much credit for the boat, but in the right hands this would be a pretty much unbeatable P-Hydro in Namba!!!
