    spektrum

just had a chat with horizon hobby. i want a stick radio to monitor and warn me via voice or buzzer ( no looking down) on pack voltage and esc temp. they recommended an air transmitter DX6 6 channel dsmx mode 2, 8 channel ar 8010t 8 channel reciever, and sensors along with a carbon fuse remote receiver that gets antenna out of the boat (carbon fiber ). total cost with 2 sensors, around $400. anybody know of a cheaper way to monitor and warn me of pack voltage and high esc temps.

You can save a few bucks using the AR6600T receiver. The voltage and temperature capabilities are in the receiver, and the sense leads for voltage at least (not sure about temp) come with the rx.

You won't need the carbon remote receiver depending on the design of your hull. You may be fine with the stock setup, or you can replace antennas with the very inexpensive SPM4648ANT. HK makes longer ones, but I would never recommend buying anything from them.

Hey Larry, I was thinking about you the other day. Specifically I was thinking about your hospitality, and the club's.

How are things going up North?

Thanks for missing me. I don't get to play with boats so much any more. Nobody in the area runs them I was hoping to finish up the two I have started (21" unlimiteds that Garry designed).

            Things are great up here.
We don't race in Toronto any more (pond is too small for the boats that we run now)
Our local club now is Northern Lights (IMPBA)
We also go to MI. for the Michigan Cup race - June 23 - 25
            Our Can-Am Race is Aug.5,& 6

Andy, just out of curiosity, where in IL are you located? Definitely not a popular hobby in this state.

Champaign area. I work for Horizon Hobby on Spektrum transmitters (DX5R started as my personal boat radio) - same folks who make Pro Boat.

DX5R your personal boat radio......I didn't know you had 250 boats Andy!

Good to hear from you again. Your input is certainly missed on this forum.

                      Hi Jay,

                      Thanks.

No, I only have 3 right now. And one of these days I'll finish up the Baby Bootlegger for my wife.

What radio have you been using, or are used to using. Why a stick? , for I do not believe that even the expensive 8, or 9+ channel ones will do what you want. Frankly, I think the only way you can do this, is with
something I have. I already had the Eagletree logger with all sensors, I then got the Seagull wireless dashboard, which HAS audio alarms, you can also hook it to a laptop so your pit crew/peeps/wife could also give you audible warnings. I then attached it to my DX4S. http://www.eagletreesystems.com/inde...&product_id=99

Our 6-channel entry level air radios like the DX6 do it, no problem. That's why Product Support recommended it. If he doesn't need voice, the DX6e ($150) will cover him. Voice would mean a DX6 ($199). An AR6600T is $65.

The $400 he's mentioned may be if he's buying from Canada or Australia where the exchange rate makes things look more expensive.

Andy, you are truly missed on this forum. It was your expertise, knowledge and honesty that influenced me to buy my first Spektrum product and have continued to buy their products since. Your candour on the Spektrum product line is a breath of fresh air from an employee of a manufacturer.

Thanks, Douggie. I've always tried to be open and honest all the time everywhere (got me banned once, but you all know that...). And you have no idea how many times I've been told that people bought my ESCs or Spektrum radios, just like you say.
