    mah

Been running electric a couple years now. Still have a lot to learn. A question that always enters my mind is, what setups require lower than 5,000 mah. I have always used those numbers in my boats and will be running 10,000 in my latest build. Who uses lower than 5,000 mah batteries, and why?

I do but really only in 2p setups. Say 4s2p 4000mah each pack giving me 8000mah.
My other was 12s1p and 3300 mah. And all mine have been for weight/space reasons.

      I do.

I race to Naviga rules which dictate a <280g for 2s/3s packs and <560g for 4s/6s packs. I chose to run 3s and 6s to lower the amp draws and gain a touch of efficiency through lower wiring losses so my full size race packs are low C rate 4000-4800mAh. If I wasn't confined by the rules I would probably run sturdier high C 4000mAh and have less runtime but longer battery life, as being designed around a 280g/560g battery half my boats won't fit a high C 5000 3s/6s pack, and I don't want to go back to the higher amp draws of 2s/4s.

For mini boats (450mm/17.5") 5000mAh is way to big and heavy, I run 1500 or 2000mAh depending on whos rules I am running to. Naviga are <110g which I have 1500-1700mAh packs for, and my old local club allowed <140g which gave me 1800-2000mAh. If I wasn't confined by rules I would probably run 2200mAh which are ubiquitous for parkfliers, so are cheap and easily available locally.

The new dinogy 70c 4s 5000 packs only weigh 517g.

That is pretty light for a high C pack, but for 4s Tenshock have 7200mAh <560g, even with the extra voltage from a high c pack I think I would need >6000mAh to be competitive.
