    Dumas Hot Shot resurrection

I have an Old Dumas Hot Shot that once ran a nitro .21 outboard that has since been converted to FE. I've ran it a few time on 3s with good results. To me tho, it feels kinda heavy to be competitive when I race it on 4s this season.

So, I'm basically curious if anyone has a good target weight I should try for? Maybe with and without battery?

    Any help is appreciated!!!!

I don't have an answer for you but i'm really interested in how you did the FE conversion. I have an old wood kit Dumas Hot Shot i built 20+ years ago that i raced in .21 Nitro Tunnel back in the day. I've wanted to possibly convert it to an FE and get it back on the water one of these day's, so i'd definitely like to know how to set it up right! Just curious, got any pics of the boat and the electronics/lay out?

Cool, an wood kit Hot Shot like mine! I haven't really looked a whole lot at mine, but i've often wondered if the electronics compartments were long/wide enough for a Lipo pack, ESC and servo, looks like there is quite a bit of room. What motor is that you are going to run??

This boat took a hella beating back in its day as a nitro racer as you can see........

You'd be surprised as to what you can fit in there as far as electronics go.... I'm running a cheap 80amp esc with an old Electrifly Ammo 1800kv motor on 4s....speaking of batteries.......I'm able to cram a 5200mah 4s in the back, but its a bit heavy. I ran good today on a 2200mah 4s....until the flex shaft broke.....still trying to figure that one out!!!

Yeah mine held up pretty well from it's nitro racing day's, i just ran a the stock K&B 3.5 engine, it was pretty reliable for nitro. I wondered which end to place a battery pack, i don't have any 4S packs but thought i could stack a couple 2s packs on top of each other.

            Here's mine, she's a little dusty....

Well...I picked up another flex shaft and got it in. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I did some research and found that a preferred prop for 1800/2030kv motors on an outboard is the Grimracer 42-55 2 blade. Found one on eBay for a deal so picked it up too....problem is, it's too big in dia to fit. It hits the bottom of my cavitation plate. So I think I'm gonna remove the plate and replace and raise it with a piece of carbon fiber. Probably won't be for a couple weeks for that tho....still have a mini rigger on the bench to finish!!!

I clubbed raced a 3.5 Hot Shot back in the day won lots of heats with that boat fun fun. I jest returned to the boating hobby after 20 yrs away. I jest finished building my new wood kit Hot Shot Sprint 2 weeks ago. I still had that old K&B kicking around so I jest had to. Rebuilt the bottom end an bolted a 4 pole brushless 2000 kv motor to it with the elect conversion adapter. I'm set up for 3 cell lipo, 30 amp ESC. I placed the receiver and the speed control in the back compartment, the battery goes in the middle and the steering servo up front all alone , all three have tape down lids. I used braided cables for steering. I test fit twin 2 cell lipo's and they fit perfect in there on edge, an a 60 amp ESC also fit in rear, jest in case future up grade. I ran the boat last Sunday yep mid winter S.E. Ma ha ha. She ran super, hopped right on plane an scooted off smooth solid stable planted glued on rails. FUN FUN. I'm lovin my new Hot Shot Sprint all over again. I jest cause I'm 58 an don't take life serious. have fun Danny H.

Sometimes things just don't go as planned!!
So here's what happened......I was trying to "nudge" my cavitation up just a hair to clear the bigger prop. using the good ole bench vise. Bad idea......I never knew thin cast aluminum would break so easy....no biggie...I planned on cutting it off anyway to move a new carbon fiber plate up just a bit. Well....that didn't work out either......I have no way to attach the new plate and still be able to split the lower leg in half for maintenance.

So.....I ened up buying a Rek lower to completely replace the old worn out K&B lower. Problem solved!!

Had to swap over a few parts from the old conversion, but overall its a huge success!!
I had no idea how worn out my K&B unit was until I got the Rek unit!!!!

What size prop can you fit in there? With my old K&B lower biggest I can run is an Octura X442=(42mmx1.4)SAM_2439.jpgSAM_2438.jpg

With this REK unit, I can fit up to a 43mm prop. Currently, I'm running a detongued GrimRacer 42x55 with good results....the same prop wouldn't clear the cavitation plate on my K&B lower......

So the ice melted 2 days ago here in S.E. Ma, 50 degrees this Saturday morning, 9:00 morning fog lifting, sun peekin tru, water flat as can be, perfect for the Sprint. Wiles being snowed/ froze in I made some changes to the Sprint. It now runs on a twin 2 cell set up. Dynamite 6 pole high torque 2000k/v 2 to 6 cell brushless inrunner motor, 60 amp 4 cell Dynamite dual battery ESC. Prather 215 prop, and twin 2S 5000mAh 30C batteries. Ran GPS top speed 42 mph.

Nice!!!! How'd the 30c batteries hold up? Any heat? I'm currently researching new batteries for mine.

All electronics came back cool as cucumber. The batteries are Dynamite Reaction hard case. I'm not sure of actual run time, gps says I covered over 11,000 ft (two+ miles). Boat ran great fun fun. A+ first test, handled well, smooth, cornered on rails, jest need to trim the nose down a tiny fraction.
