    Strut brushings

    Dear all

I have a question about the strut bushings. I seem Aquacraft like use floating bushings. Is it floating bushings better than bushings .
    Hope anyone advise me!!

    Thanks and best regards

I used lead Teflon bushings for years, but once I tried floating brass bushings I almost abandoned the former. The floating part reduces the rpm each moving surface sees, reducing overall friction. I have found that wear is almost non-existent on the brass bushings as long as I use a good quality oil. I can't remember the last time I replaced a floating bushing. Note that the floating part must move freely in order for floating bushings to actually work as designed. I have seen some RTR bushings which do not actually float inside the strut.

The lead Teflon bushings are more fragile than most people think. The slippery Teflon coating is easily rubbed off when sliding the cable in and out of the strut. The remaining bare lead is an okay surface if a thin enough oil is used, but to keep Teflon you have to replace the bushings regularly. For this reason I only use the lead bushings on SAW boats where rpm is extreme and constant maintenance is not an issue.
