For what it's worth... I ran my three El Lobos with the motor at the back, using .130" flex, but hardly had any bend at all... You just have to take the extra steps to mount the motor as LOW as you can get it... My Maus Microbullet N1 boat is the same way... no extra friction, which is important in a low powered N1 setup... I'll try to dig up some older pics and show you the installation... I'm not convinced that the slight bends have any more friction than the increased shaft area of a motor-forward installation...
