    "Fried" AQ esc

Help! Just installed new AQ bl ESC and Feigao 540 6S bl. Single 8 cell NiMH battery.
Boat ran for couple minutes, stopped, got it going again. Motor was cool but ESC was very hot. Got it going again same thing. ESC was so hot the neg insulation melted. ESC no longer works. BEC still works. ? bad ESC or bad motor that fried the ESC. Any suggestions.

    Specs:
    -Forward:Yes
    -Brake:Yes
    -Continuous Maximum Current:45A
    -Input Voltage:Minimum 10V, Maximum 21V
    -Momentary Peak Current:55A
    -BEC Voltage:5.8V

8 cells is not enough power to correctly run the esc. thats only 9.6 volts.............you need to run 2 6 or 7 cell packs
an RC rock crawler lost in a sea of boat parts.........

        8 cell X 1.2volt= 9.6

        So 5915 X 9.6 =56784 RPM

56 784 RPM is alot more than 45 amps that the esc is rated for

I'm new at this so perhaps I don't understand. The Aquacraft ESC info says 8-14 cells.
The Fiegao 6S info says 4-8 cells. If I'm underpowered with battery why would it burn up the ESC. Does this motor need an esc with a higher amp rating

I believe that if you identify what hull you are running (to determine size constraints, weight, etc.), any prop info you have, and your intentions (any info that you are thinking of for the future), many of the users here could make recommendations.

The more information you can provide, the more there is to go on so that you can make an decision based on various options you have now and in the future for any purchase you make.

Sir, your problem is the total RPM.....26,000 Sport boating.......34,000 SAW.

                        Your motor is toast

First off... what type of boat are we talking about here??

For Monos or Sport Hydros... 25,000-35,000 RPM
                          For Hydros (riggers)... 35,000-40,000RPM tops...

And those higher ends are RACE ONLY type setups... 1 1/2 minutes or so tops...

With that motor, you'll want to drop your cell count down to 6-cells...

That'll be approximately 6-V under load, so around 35,000 RPM or so....

You should be able to run that with a Barracuda 80 or equivalent ESC, but you may want to just opt for one of the 100-amp cheapos out there, or step up to a Hydra 120 and give yourself some room...

OR, since you may have fried your motor anyhow... get yourself a 7L or 8L and you can keep using your 8-cell packs...

Did he say he ran it on a single 8 cell pack?
