    Transom doublers

On a DF 34 hydro, they come with a white colored doubler of some kind of material. I got some carbon plate from OSE to cut doublers out of for the transom and sponson transom.
Are the stock doublers strong enough, or should I use the carbon plate I have on top of it?

Larry, I always double it up. Just to be sure, I would hate to tear a transom off due to a stick.

I'm thinking I'll go ahead and do it. Thanks.
I just got started on the build tonight. All I have is my phone for posting pics. Not sure if I'm able to post pics using it.
Guess I'll find out. Wouldn't mind doing a build thread. Doesn't seem to be many build threads of this boat.
It either isn't that great of a hull, or people just aren't doing threads on it. Figure I'll see if I can do it with my phone and add another thread for a DF 34 hydro.

I prefer wood for doublers so I can use blind nuts. Last time I saw someone rip out a transom was back when we ran plastic or ABS boats.

Thank you Mark. Good idea with the blind nuts.

Mmm, yes. Would make assembly easier.

I love the vortex hull I put together a 24 instead of the 34, I like the smaller size. I use aluminum stock for doublers and tap threads in it for the hardware

I also added a doubler behind the turn fin bracket. The right side sponson has the swiss cheese looking fiberglass glass mat like the transom does, but I still put a little support behind it.

Thanks guys. I'll use the CF plate that I have on hand. Should work just fine, along with lock nuts and flat washers.

And a big pain to get to those nuts and washers.

I agree, Mark, but I can handle it. (Thumbs up)
Although, the transom doubler isn't far from the rear of the hatch opening on this one, so it won't be too bad.

Instead of nuts and washers I make aluminum plates for each piece of hardware that I tap and use Vibratite on the screws. The first time I put the plates in place I attached them to the doubler with marine goop. Then I never have to get my fingers down in there to get a nut started again. Ugh. Hate that part.

You drill and tap after right? Would be a pain the other way. This is what I'm going to do from now on specially for turn fins.

There is so little room in a df33 for turn fin nuts.

I used blind nuts for a long time. Even though most of my boats run dry, water always finds a way in like when the hatch comes off etc. Blind nuts tend to corrode over time and wood gets rot. You can use stainless blind nuts to make it less prone to corrosion.
