TFL Gear Driven outboard- Quick review

I just received my TFL gear outboards from TFL yesterday. First impression is they are well made. They are 7" tall from top of cowling to bottom of skeg, and 2" wide from left side to right side of the cowling. Gears feel good and smooth, and the lower accepts the Aquacraft 36x56, 2030 kv motor and water cooler just fine. I am planning on designing a Carolina Skiff around 34" long in fiberglass, the THX-305 30.5" race tunnel I am finishing up designing will work great with this as well, and when I finish up the XCat, I plan on these fitting it perfectly as well. Nice little scale outboard, and luckily, works with 4s power, so the options are limitless. Now, maybe they will make one about 2" taller with larger gears!! They also look just as good in person as Monica's pics have shown! Mike

Mike, When you say Carolina Skiff, do you mean the garvey type fiberglass production boat that some people clam out of or the flared bow, raised forward deck sport fishing type indigenous to the Carolinas and Outerbanks? Or are you talking about something else entirely?

Bob, Well, both your guesses are right actually. I am doing a 48" Carolina Flare sportfishing hull and deck, like the 3d model below. I have been designing it off and on for a while now, just have not had the time to finish till now. And, I am doing a flat bottom skiff around 34" to work with the TFL outboard! Enjoy, Mike

Wow Mike. That looks really cool. Do you have any photos of these outboards?

Not interested in arguing with you Axel Rose.

Anyways, here are some pics. I apologize for the delay. This is the TFL vs the Amps Outboard vs the Graupner GTX800. The motor in the pic is an Aquacraft 36x56mm 2030kv and cooling jacket. Mike

Are you really going to put that on a garvey? That should be very interesting.

Absolutely, but with a Yamaha cowling instead.

WTF! Mike did a "quick" review and now posted great pics showing relative size of the motor. Good info and hope we hear more down the line on how the gears hold up on 4S.

Looks to be a great scale powerplant, can't wait to see twins hanging off the back on an X-Cat
