looking to convert my gas size outrigger to electric. would like it to be competitive with gas oval running riggers. the boat is 47" long and in gas trim weighs 15 lbs. rtr. guessing gas riggers are running around 70 mph in oval competition today, unless anyone can dispute that. prefer single engine and reasonable priced power system. maybe T.P. motor. open to suggestions. thank

Fitting everything into the tub will likely be the biggest challenge. Suggest 10S2P with a minimum 7000 mAh total and minimum 60C. The TP 5670 if you insist, Kv 850 is probably best. This Kv powers monos and cats in our club into the 70s with a Castle 2028, should be faster in a rigger with more aggressive props. This is an oval boat, not a SAW racer, you don't want or need extreme rpm.
I suspect that that at least some gas riggers and sport hydros (very similar in speed and handling) run in the 80s based on what I have seen at the Gas Worlds. My 4S rigger cuts 12 second laps and tops out in the high 70s on the oval. But FE boats have a very large advantage over gas - instant torque and acceleration. By the time a gas boat is half way down the straight the FE is starting the next turn.

I'm still waiting for the motor to get here but will let you know how it goes. That's not to say spinning a small prop won't work, it will.

Mark, a 650 Kv motor on 10S should spin closer to 20,000 rpm loaded (depending on cell quality), not 24,000. That's about what the Castles spin in our 10S boats. There is nothing wrong with spinning a gas prop at gas rpm of course, the boat will still turn lower lap times. But as you mentioned, slightly smaller props spinning a bit faster work too, with less prop walk. One club member does this in a converted gas sport hydro and he crushes the gas boats...when he can keep the boat upright. Two paths to the same end.

I got my numbers by multiplying 3.7 which gives 24000 or 3.5 which gives 2,2750 which is still higher than any gas motor can spin. I will be running 10s 2p of my new graphene packs which I know will hold high voltage. I want a motor that can turn a real gas prop and not a 467 or 470 on 8s which is what I've see being run on castle motors. They told me 10s you have to run an even smaller prop and that's not what I want. I want to convert a gas boat over to electric with out them having to buy new props. I want to turn a 7016 3 blade which is what all the gas guys are using on my hull I'm running. Next I will convert a gas hydro over and the props they use are even more aggressive and a castle isn't going to cut it. I know you can go fast by spinning a small prop but I'm doing this for insane boats to have an option for there gas customers to convert over to electric without having to buy new props. I know a Neu 2230 will get the job done but at $900. a motor that is too high a price. The TP 5860 motors have 6 poles and lots of KV options at $250. a motor with cooling jacket. I just hope the 650kv can get the job done.If not looking to blow the gas guys away. I will also be looking at an 8s option too compete in the lower stock gas classes but a castle still isn't going to turn a big gas prop and that's the reason why they wont work for what I'm trying to do. I think Jays friend is using the castle 2028 800kv motor. My motor finally got here and I have got some testing done. The motor turns the 7016 props no problem. The guys here think I'm hitting 70 at the end of the back strait. I'm waiting for Brian B to make me a 2814 ABC prop to try. I'm not having any prop walk problem. I must say the boat takes off out of the hole very nice with the big prop. I think big boat conversions are going to be very easy for guys wanting to convert gas size boats on the cheap. TP now has a 5870 motor and I'm going to give that motor a try too. But for you guys wanting to go real fast, TP has a lot of KV options to target your max rpm and will swing the bigger props doing it. I'm going out again today with the castle 160 esc to get some data from the boat.
