    Big cat idea's

Wanted to get some idea's for a new cat. I was running a ready to run 48inch cat boat that i had the bright idea to but big power in BIG MISTAKE!! Once it came down from its flight its done to say the least. I'm running a 56110 780kv with a Swordfish 300 pro plus not going above 12s. was thinking about the Victory cat 51??

What are your desires for the boat?

    - Type of running: oval racing, SAW, sport running
    - Speed expectations
    - Run time expectations
    - Cost limit
    - Type of water you run on: ocean, lake, pond, size of waterway
    - Is scale appearance important

It is all in the setup....and the hull design. Most RTR hulls are too thin/weak to handle a hard crash at high speed. Some cat hulls will not handle high speeds and remain stable. Give us as much detail as you can and we should be able to help you.

              Hi Marlemarl

I also have been looking at the Victory Cat and have found very little information on it. I am considering a 10 cell installation for oval heat racing. That being said, I will be following this thread.

              Have a nice day, Tony

The Zelos 48 hull is not strong enough off the shelf to handle more power. Trust someone who's split one with stock running gear. They need strengthening. Fluid is certainly right.... surprise surprise :-) 60mph sees them a little flaky with my exp so far but with air dams & setup tweaks etc etc I think you could push them a little more - but exactly how far I'm not sure. Really - they weren't designed for faster speeds I don't think. I'm in the middle of strengthening a 48 now - and I can tell you the hull I have has air bubbles and flaky glasswork in some areas that really made me go *damn*. Thin hull thickness too in the sidewalls and weak seams is also a problem. Seems proboat recently revisited the production process of these - but I can't speak for what difference that has/hasn't made. Short of it - strengthen the 48.

Have a look at Kieth Bradley boats perhaps too. He has a range of cat hulls from 40ish inches right up to 74inches. Nice hulls by the looks of things. Had my eye on em for a while now......

Sorry but these are not responsive answers. With enough power and money you could exceed 130 mph. In FE boating there is speed, run time and low cost....choose any two. What "looks good" to one person may not to another. "Bang for the buck" really means an RTR. How much bang and how many bucks? Until we know your exact expections we can only give you the same kind of vague suggestions.
