    waterproofing receiver

has anyone used plasti dip rubber coating to waterproof their receiver? seems like a good idea, but can't bring myself to dip a $100 receiver, unless someone here has done it with success.

Pretty much, I used liquid tape spray based on a recommendation here.

Corrosion X is what I've been doing to my servos and receivers for years. The traxxas receiver box is just water resistant not waterproof.

I found some little plastic boxes at the Dollar store that are just big enough to hold a receiver. Drill a tiny hole for the antenna , seal it and the lid with Goop and yer done.

How about the servo and ESC leads? Pretty big holes required for them. Products like GOOP can and will separate from the wires slightly with use, allowing water to wick into the box. Certainly better than nothing, but I too prefer CorrosionX. Of course the best thing is to keep water out of the boat, but so many folks seem to have trouble with this very basic requirement for FE boats.

Yep, I did a tutorial on waterproofing receivers using Plasti Dip a couple years ago. If I wasn't heading to bed I'd dig around and try to find it. in a nutshell all I did was open the receiver, take out the circuit board inside it and give it several thorough coats of Plasti Dip after I put some spare plugs over the contacts for the speed controller and servo, then let it dry before reinstalling and it worked beautiful. I've even had a couple boats under water for 5 - 6 hours and the receivers still worked afterwards

I waterproof them with balistol seal, it is perfect capillary.
Open them, tape the connector wires, spray it on the pcb.

The sensitive graupner hott receivers are running perfect qhen dripped with water.
Balistol seal is removable if necessary.

I've decided to do it. I'm going to use servo extension leads to permanently install in receiver and just mark them for hooking up. Also, instead of hanging up to dry, I'm going to lay the receiver on a piece of wax paper so there is a flat section to use velcro for attaching to boat. Going to do numerous coats, then put a blob on the wax paper and set the coated receiver on that. Should work nicely. I just coated my receiver with corrosion-x, do you think i should clean off with alchohol before using plasti-dip?

If you use dp270 you could completely encase the Rx having your extension leads hanging out as with any antenna.

What I like about the plasti-dip is that you can just dip the item in the can and are guaranteed to coat entire item. I am going to coat my receiver. battery, and on-off switch.

I use epoxy after I learned from a few failed RX and some persuasion from members.

as far as the alcohol goes, sure it certainly won't hurt Nothin. here's that Plasti Dip how to thread I posted awhile back.

Dip, in Rust-Oleum Leak Seal and you are done. For servo's you can use dielectric (no conductive) grease and pack the servo with that to make them waterproof. Both methods work well.

I don't bother with any of that, just spray the insides of the receiver with Corrosion-X.

I've had a receiver completely submerged in saltwater for over 30 minutes with no damage. Just sprayed down the board with freshwater and re-coated with Corrosion-X, it was good to go the same day.

I recently had my receiver in my Pursuit running underwater for 3 minutes, still on while submerged. I shook out the excess water and ran it a few minutes later.

These were cheapo Tactic receivers by the way.

Best thing to do is open up the receiver case and spray the board completely with Corrosion-X. This makes sure it gets everywhere. Then close it up and your are done.

Then after that, anytime water gets in the receiver you should respray again with Corrosion-X. If you get saltwater on your receiver, rinse with freshwater first, then spray it down again.
