I am looking for a cat to run in the NAMBA offshore class for P or P limited. I believe that there is a hull length restriction of 34".
So far I have found the following:
TFL Cheetah (34")
Aeromarine Mean Machine (29.5")
Delta Force 28 Pathfinder (27.75")
ProBoat Miss Geico/Blackjack (29")
Am I missing something here, are the smaller boats better? Or is this just not a popular class to have industry support?
I'm not a racer as of yet and have not enough experience ...yet....If you go to the threads regarding NAMBA discussion you should find enough info regarding P and P Ltd. I admit it is a bit confusing especially in regards to motors/ battery packs. It seems the discussions are about what can and cannot be used but then there are some exceptions.???
I would like to build one of those myself, preferably the Mean Machine.
Good luck with yours.
A good way to decide on which hull to start out with is to contact the Club that you intend to race with and find out what's the "go-to" rig in their area. A P-Cat hull (like the Cheetah) is a good P-Oval / P- Offshore choice BUT will be somewhat big for P-Ltd. Here in D19 the Motley Crew/Lucas is most prevalent in P-Ltd Cat but others like the MM will be competitive as well for those that choose to build their own rig..

2009/2010 NAMBA P-Sport Hydro Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder, '13 SCSTA P-Ltd Cat High Points

I just checked with the NAMBA rules and both P and P Ltd hull length at 34". If you go to NAMBA's website: www.namba.com/
you will find the rules for electric boats. They only specify hull length for either Mono or Hydro classes and the motor(s) to be used. From what I see in their rules for P Ltd. Their is a number of NAMBA approved motors . P class states any motor or number of motors. I hope someone else steps in here and provides further information it is a bit confusing to those of us not yet involved in NAMBA.
I was going through the NAMBA rules and that is where I came up with 34". I was thinking that bigger is better. Properchopper makes a good point that a 34" boat might be a lot to haul for a P-limited motor, and a smaller hull would perform better under those circumstances.
There are a few racers here, last race is this weekend but it's an hour away. Always a good choice to go with the local flavor.

Exactly. That's why P is not limited to any particular motor or number of motors.
You're lucky, there aren't any boaters nearby either in my case. I have to drive an hour myself to find anyone running electric.
The joys of living UP North.
