water proofing a Wildcat brushless EP

Got a question regarding keeping water out of the main compartment of the Wildcat. My boat came with a water proofing tape. I've read these tape can leave behind a sticky residue. There's a higher grade tape that is out there which may not do this. Has anyone done anything else creative to keep water out; a weather strip, anything to put on the 'shelf' that the cover rests on? How many actually use the tape?

Also, never re-use tape after a run..it will not hold the same if there is even the slightest amount of moisture left over...always use new tape.

I've been using electrical tape, no residue, and it doesn't lift decals.

Use tape!!!....many moons ago I tried methods such as you describe, weather strip with hold down machine screws....OK on slow 20-30 mph boats but still not great.
