    Genesis Torque Steer

Hi, my boat is a Genesis 900 and it is equipped with the ff: Turnigy 3974 2200kv motor, Seaking 180 V3 timing setting at default seems like 15 deg., 4s Lipo and CNC 445 prop. with stock 4mm 2 piece shaft.
I'm experiencing massive torque steer to the right. Is there a way to minimmize or remove the torque steer?

Yes you can minimize that by blocking off the 2 pockets in the transom extention.. I used a thin lexan glue it down and silicone the edges... also move the left side battery forward to help also...

That Turnigy motor is a D wind motor & should use low timing 0-5 degrees, on the Seaking v3 esc you can set to either 0 degrees or 3.75 degrees.

Make sure the bottom of the strut is not lower than the sponsons. About 1/8" higher is good to start with.
Also a blunt prop will cause a lot of prop steer.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

So, does it mean that if I insist on using 445 prop I just have to live with the prop steer?

            No.
You've been offered 3 things to look at that will all reduce prop steer. Have you tried them yet?

I will be trying all of them on the weekend. Thank you.

I built a 32" rivercat last year and had lots of prop walk from a 43mm cnc prop, switched to a nice sharpened/balance m445 and it drove perfect

Nice input I'll buy a sharpened and balanced prop and try it. Thank you.

Also I should add, it was prop walking on full throttle passes. It never tracks straight at slower speeds because I run an offset rudder

What can you say about the usage of flex savers? Is it advisable or will it restrict the spring action of the flex cable?

A flex saver will do nothing on the 2 piece flex shaft design as the flex cannot be lost out the back. Because of the separate stub shaft that has a shoulder on the shaft to prevent anything being lost out the back.

When you say torque roll, I'm assuming its only when your getting it going on plane?

I had a similar setup as you when I first built my Genesis. I had a Leopard 4082 2200kv with the 180V3, and Octura 642 prop on 4S. It had some torque roll at the start, but quickly got on plane and no torque roll once moving. You may want to consider looking at a 42mm prop with 1.6 pitch, which should equal your 445 in performance but help with torque roll at the start.

However, I didn't like that high kv on 4S, so I switched to a Leopard 4092 1730kv with a M445 prop on 6S. That motor has so much torque that I can literally make it barrel roll from a standstill by giving it full throttle. But with good finger control, you can get it to plane and moving smoothly at full throttle. Obviously this is not a setup you would want because the torque roll at the beginning is high, but very smooth once on plane. Top speed is about 70 mph.

Here is a video of my Genesis on 4S with the same KV as your setup, sorry for the voiceover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNfAc93ayUg

Sorry, i was referring to a 1 piece shaft.

I understand what you are saying and believe it to since mine behaves that way also. It seems like single motor cats really behave that way when we set it up to go fast.
