    Help me pick a boat...

Hello all...I'm new to this forum, so first off hello.... Okay lets get to business. I'm not new to RC. I owned cars and helicopters in the past. I just bought a nice 34ft Searay and though it would be nice to have something to play with while I'm sitting on the mooring. I've been looking at all different types of boats, V bottom, catamaran ect. Would the catamaran be more stable in a little bit of a chop? I want something electric, fast... stable, well built and could upgrade when I wanted. I would think anything over 30". My price range is around $500, cut could be modified depending. Can you guys give me some suggestions and why?

    Thanks..
    Marc

A mono will handle chop better than a cat. If this is your first boat a mono would probably be a good place to start. Proboat Voracity would be a nice option, or Steve has artr TFL Pursuit's setup nicely in the OSE store. There is tons of good info floating around the forum, just dig around

This topic was actually just discussed a couple weeks ago http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...boats-no-to-RC

Thanks, I'm looking at the TFL Pursuit's. What king of upgrades really make a difference with it?

The one's Steve has setup in the store look pretty nice right out of the box. As far as upgrade's go it all really depends what you want the boat to do. Do you plan on just sport running? Making it as fast as you can? Oval running? I have a cat thats setup for 75mph speed runs but doesn't turn very well, and I have 3 other boats that do mid 50's wide open around a oval course. I can easily say I have more fun running laps with buddies but that's just me

I'd enjoy running laps, turning ect. How is the speed control and motor on that boat? Would it be worth upgrading right away. I normally get use to stuff quick and want to upgrade fast..lol . What kind of speed out of the box does it do?

Is there a phone contact for him? It says closed from July-Aug ????

Your best bet is to contact Steve. There is contact info on the OSE main page. They're closed on weekends July-Aug. He offers 2 pursuit's one with the "Integrated drive system" which I'm not familiar with. The other has a normal flex cable drive system. They both have SSS motors and seaking ESC's which are good components. I'm sure they will do 50 easily with good batteries and trimmed correctly. Hard to say if its worth "upgrading" right away, you really need to just get a boat first, run it, and go from there. Keep in mind the pursuits he offers are ARTR boats. You will need a servo, 2 channel radio system, and batteries (and charger of course) to complete them. Good luck

A larger mono (30"+) would be best for you to start with. see if RCbidder still has this available, it would be perfect, and within your budget.
