7XL Brushless 2370KV Marine motor and hydro 240 ESC..

I just want to hear everyone's opinion on this setup..7XL Brushless 2370KV Marine motor and hydro 240 ESC.. This is the setup I have for my 33" DF type mono hull which i purchased from Avanti27offshore (John)..He ran this setup on a 4s1p with no issues...It seems that their are more people against this setup.. Can anyone else with experience with this setup let em know how it performes. I just dont want to go out first run and burn something up...Thanks

That is a pretty hot setup for 4s1p. You could probably run 4s1p with an 9Xl. I have run 4s1p on an 8XL and the battery pack got warmer than I would have preferred.

My 32 inch Toysport Triton runs an 8xl on 4S with X442 prop and according to my Data Logger averages 75 amps with peaks of 85 - 90. Temps are all under 110 degrees after 3 minutes.
Your 33 DF is similar size and weight so a 7xl would probably pull about another 15 - 20 amps on the same prop.
You could always run a smaller diameter prop but I have found the Triton needs 42mm, anything less will cavitate too much trying to push a boat of this size.

Just curious what size packs you're running. I run an 8XL on 4S in my 26" cat with an X440 and my packs get into the upper 120's, but I am "only" running 25C 3700's, which were recommended and sold to me by another well known FE vendor for this setup. I kind of wish I knew more and bought packs that were a bit bigger. Now I have two 5S 30C 5300's that I was going to put in it, but they weigh more than the boat does and are extreme over kill, so I don't know if I'm going to try it or not lol.

              Hi Locktite
              My batteries are 2 Hyperion Litestorm VX 25 - 40C 4S packs.
They are only 2500mah but I run them in Parallel to give 5000mah.
If I was to set up my Triton again I would use a 9XL and a bigger prop.

Depending on your desired speed and run time, you can use an x642 or perhaps an x445 or m545. You will probably find that you can go almost as fast with the 9XL as you would have with the 7XL, at least with sane setups.

On the comment about LiPos coming back at 120F - nothing wrong at all, in fact they will run better at 120-130F. An important thing to do is to heat your packs to around 100F before you run - they will perform better because they have lower resistance, and they will heat up less during your run. As long as they come in under 140F you are not hurting them. Starting a strong run at only 70F probably does more damage....warm LiPos are a good thing.

Every hull is different but I would start with the X442 and check temps etc.
I have tried an M445 on my Triton but I don't think it was any faster, everything just got hotter !

                      I ran the 7xl w/a hydra 240 on 4s1p 5000mah 25c flightpower and a x640 prop bal&sharp
run times were good temps were fine and most importantly the boat hung with the neu powered boats in my club no problems.
Hebner, obrien, and highndry can vouch for this setup

obrien runs the same setup with no issues and also ran this setup in his meanmachine cat with great success.
The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

A good sharp, thin, balanced and detounged Prather 225 prop is very good on a 9XL. Good temps/runtime and i won one of my heats with it last race day(other heat DNS).

How well will the boat work with the x640 prop I have on it now, with the 9xl motor. I am hoping I can use the boat this weekend with the x640 prop and 9xl motor..If not I will put the 7xl motor in with the X640 prop and give it a shot..

If avanti said the 7XL was good i'd run it with the x640 until you get a prop suited more for the 9XL. You won't be happy with the performance of the 9xl and x640.
