New to boats, no to RC

    Hey everyone!

I just bought a house on a lake and I am looking to get into a decent boat. I race off-road trucks/buggies and fly helis and airplanes, so I have a tx and tons of lipos already, chargers and tons of tools, etc.

I am looking for a 30"-up boat that is either artr or a kit. Ideally, I'd like to be less than 500 into the boat, motor and esc. I am not opposed to buying used if it's in good condition. Cat or mono hull is fine.

    Thanks,
    Greg

There is a WTB thread why don't you see what might be offered to you?

That integrated drive system on the Pursuit looks awesome. I see that it hasn't been out too long. I am going to do a little more research on this.

I did some video searching on this Pusuit and found a 4S and 6S video... The boat seems slower than most other monos of the same size running 6S. Motor and ESC limited out of the box? I would like to hit 60mph.

            Thanks,
            Greg

With that integrated drive system you will be limited to a 36mm motor. You'll most likely need to get into a 40mm motor to get to 60mph.
You won't find RTR or ARTR boats with that kind of speed, but a Proboat Voracity may be a good starting point and enough size in the boat that will handle 60mph with some tweaks and upgrades. It will be more stable on the water than then the 30" to 32" boats.

Agreed... these are very nice looking boats and also too have the size to handle 60mph better.
Will still need a few upgrades from stock to hit 60mph but its capable for sure.

That PHANTOM SV 33 RC from Pro Marine looks pretty sharp too! Can't wait to see the specs on that bad boy when they become available.

I hadn't heard of Pro Marine before so I did a little searching last night. Entertaining reads, interesting business philosophy. I do like the scale look of their cats.

Love my Pursuits. Easy drivers. I didn't know the new drive limited you to 36mm. That's interesting. I'd have to think on that a bit. There are some powerful motors available in that size range. Just a different approach. The Pursuit can be made to go fast and still be stable. I had perfect heats with mine at the CanAm a couple weekends ago.

I wouldn't buy a Promarine at gun point but that has nothing to do with the boat itself. They look great, run really well, and are well built by the same factory that builds the Pursuit. The glass is pretty typical TFL quality. I've seen almost no issues with anything coming out of TFL.

Is there any strut height adjustment in the new TFL drive? I only see angle adjustment... That was a big adjustment you guys were making on the Pursuit right? Strut was coming too deep (on pre-assembled units).

I'm not sure Mike. Mine were all built by me. I ended up raising my strut after the fact as my boats were running too high and dry.

                            Hi Mike,
The TFL drive has an angle adjustment which is the same as a standard stinger on the Pursuits. When we raise them... we are changing the angle, not physically raising them like you would a strut.

                              Terry,
I think it's a weight thing. You have to figure all that weight hanging off the transom can't be great. I figure if one fitted an adjustable tail ring support then you could probably go with a larger motor. Don't know for sure... but I think that's the issue.
