Central Marine RC vs MHZ help needed with purchase please

Hello, and thanks in advance for any advice or expertise or experiences any of you can provide with these hulls & manufacturers.

I have been setting aside money for quite a while wanting to build a large electric Fountain to run in 6" chop that us common on the lake I live on. I had my heart set on the Central Marine Fountain. I called to place an order for a hull & buy the time all options were added the Cost of the Central Marine Hull is $615 shipped. The options were carbon reinforced floor, transom & top deck. I t was also ordered in yellow gelcoat. But his boat have a pretty ugly seem with portions of gelcoat missing. But he said for an additional charge he could fill the seem. All of this brought the total to $615.

    http://http://www.mhz-powerboats.com/Hulls/category-27/category-40/Rebel-Offshore--Boat-1230mm---48-42-.html

Above is a link to the MHZ Rebel which is a 49" Fountain Hull they offer. The hull material is GFK which is glass & kevlar mix. The total for Rebel Hull shipped with a MHZ Trimax drive is $512 based on the qoute they just emailed me.

I already have a Castle 2028 Extreme 800kv with HRC jacket & OSE 2028 Mount that I plan on running on 10S. Do any of you have experience with either of these companies? Has anyone ever used a Trimax drive? MHZ has always been a dream boat & I did not realize they were as affordable as they were. Once again any help or past experience anyone can offer will be very helpfull before I make a large purchase.

    Thanks!!!

Here is a link to the MHZ Trimax. Also
Looking for feedback on tbis vs using Speedmaster Hardware. I love the scale look
Of the Trimax! But how functional is it? I'm sure the 2028 will move that 49" hull very well!

In my experience MHz has always had a nice layup. Never had a central marine. But if it's anything like a aero marine it will need some body work. The boat your looking at on MHz site along with the tri-max.... Same one I've had my eye on. Looks sharp. Hurry the exchange rate is good now.

Yes it's very enticing! I am leaning towards the MHZ Rebel hull. Plus it's $100 cheaper shipped with that beautiful Trimax drive. Kinda hard to believe. Rick was a good guy to deal with. But even he admitted that the seams on his hulls needed work to look up to par with the MHZ hull.

Have you ever installed a Trimax Drive?

No, I have never done a tri-max yet, its on the list though. Seems pretty straight forward. Make up some templates, measure twice cut/drill once.. I would think it would have a better adjustable range over a strut, but then again you could do a flooded stuffing tube and have more range for strut adjustment. The look of it though is very scale and something different than the norm..

Which CRC hull are you comparing the MHZ to? The smallest CRC mono I see is a 58" fountain. I hope you're not comparing a 58" hull to a 48" hull and wondering why it's much cheaper. 10" is a huge difference.

Regarding the build quality, I have 2 catamarans sitting here unbuilt. A CRC 59" MTI and a 54" MHZ. The layup on the CRC is good but unparalleled to the MHZ. There's a good reason why a MHZ cost as much as they do. I have never see an HPR in person but can only imagine how well it's crafted. The seams on the MHZ I'll give a 9 out of 10. It needs a little work before painting. If you're a perfectionist, don't be fooled there's no seams on the Rebel just because you can't see it in the pics from their website. A colored gelcoat doesn't mean there won't be any seams. A good alternative is just prep and sand the seams to your liking and have the hull painted.

The seams on the CRC I'll give a 8 out of 10. It's a little more rough and will require more work prior to painting. The only downside I noticed was even though I got the CF bottom on the MTI the seam isn't reinforced on the inside like it was on the MHZ C-AFK. There's only a small layer of glass reinforcement vs a Kevlar reinforced seams on the MHZ. Overall I'm satisfied with both hulls given the respective price differences but again, I haven't started either builds.

There's only ~5" length difference between the two cats pictured here but as you can see it's a noticeable overall difference in size. A 10" difference on a mono might be much more noticeable. If you're operating in choppy waters and can afford the larger hull, I personally would lean towards that.

Btw, I don't think the MHZ Trimax drives are steerable?? The WD200 drives are steerable but are too big for a 48" mono. You might want to consider a WD200 Lenkstut.

Awesome information. This is what I was looking for. I am leaning towards the MHZ. I have just heard so many good things about there quality. No the Trimax is not steerable & I am not after a steerable outdrive. But it does offer up & down along with left & right adjustment. Similar to flooded stuffing tube. I was only comparing the 49" & 58" because that is what I was looking at. Mhz also qouted me on there 65" fountain in Fiberglass, kevlar gfk & that was even a few dollars cheaper than the CRC. The 65" is a bit much though. It Would be very hard to transport. My powerplant is a Castle 2028 Extreme. I think it will do quite well in a 48" mono. Mhz who's customer service has been amazing also qouted me on there 65" Popeye Fountain. That was also cheaper than the CRC including shipping. The CRC are really some beautiful Hulls. But it seems the MHZ may be the way to go. Just have heard so many people rave about there quality. And it actually being cheaper than the CRC it's hard to pass up.

Thise videos are a bad comparison though. The Rebel in that video has a gas engine. Probably in the 5hp range. That 2028 on 10s is twice the power.

Those videos shows the handling of each hull. I think the Rebel is a dated hull. MHZ hulls have great layups and good scale looking hulls but in my opinion their mono hulls are a bit lacking in aesthetics. Aside from the MHZ SilverHook, Mystic Study and the Racemaster, none of the other mono hull appeals to me. The CRC Fountain although higher in price as you've optioned it out I think is the better pick between the 2 (Rebel vs Fountain). If you have nothing to compare it to, I think CRC hulls would make most people satisfied.
