    Flex cable wear?

Ran my cat yesterday and noticed when greasing the flex shaft that it is starting to feel a little rough where the prop shaft and flex are joined. Does this wear seem normal? Probably has about 75-100 runs on it. Looks like the cable is rubbing on the stuffing tube where it ends inside the strut? I am not running a liner. Thoughts and suggestions? Thanks

Doesn't look too bad to me, can you chuck up the shaft in a cordless drill and take some 400 grit wet sand paper and polish it up?

Oh ya I could definitely polish it up. But I want to first make sure I don't have an issue. You can definitely feel it getting gritty in that spot

I would monitor it, maybe there is a burr on the end of the stuffing tube?

Looks like it's rubbing on something. Your lucky. Last boat I had that the flex was rubbing I broke the flex on the second run and lost my prop. I hate losing props. If my lake ever dries up someone is going to get real lucky. Lol. There's a bunch of props and a nice boat at the bottom of it. Hahaha

Ya thats what I don't want to happen Lol!! What was yours rubbing on? I will remove the stuffing tube and inspect it, but I think it is just rubbing on where the stuffing tube ends inside the strut if that makes sense? Should I cut a longer tube so it goes farther into the strut? Or shorten it?

On a side note Travis, what would you charge if I sent you my strut to machine it for bearings and a snap ring setup? I'm not too fond of the bushing style, even when it was brand new the prop shaft seemed like it had some play in it

The stub was too long rubbing on the bend in the brass. Two choices. Make another brass tube with the bend further forward or use another flex with a shorter stub shaft. You could also just thread the stub 1/4" further on another flex just like the one you have and cut the stub 1/4" shorter, move the drive dog a 1/4" and it should bring the sub out far enough that it doesn't rub anymore.
