I spent some time this week getting my genesis setup with 5.5 bullet connectors on my 4s setup which is running 48 mph all the time. I am running the stock motor and the turnigy 180 ESC. I had a couple 3s packs I also upgraded t0 5.5 bullets so I tried a 5s setup today. Very impressed with a 61.8 mph speed on 5s.... almost 14 MPH with the same setup and prop... what a good day
Genesis upgrade to 5s

Hi Slider.
I'm interested to know what prop that was with. And the specs on the stock motor.See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Put a SSS 4082 2000kv on 6S and you will be up to 70+ mph on the M445 prop.
However, even at the speeds you are running, make sure to reinforce the hull of that boat. I highly recommend doing either carbon or fiberglass cloth layers, do the hatch as well, and fill the first couple of inches of the tips of the sponsons with resin.
Make sure to get hatch bolts as well, tape will not be enough at 60+ mph on a hard flip.Comment

Just a note, the longest water jacket you can fit on the motor with the stock mount is 50mm to 55mm. I mention this because if you get a 4082 motor, they will usually offer you water jackets almost as long as the motor itself, and those longer water jackets won't fit on the stock motor mount because of the limited space for the tail ring.
However, I have an even longer 4092 motor in there now using a small 50mm water jacket, and the motor stays very cool. It shouldn't' be an issue for you're sticking with those smaller water jackets, attached is a picture of that setup.
Funny story, this picture is right before I flipped the boat at 65+ mph, the lid flew off and the boat was flooded with saltwater for over 30 minutes before I could rescue it. I lost a good pair of batteries because of it. Lesson learned because of it, added some hatch locks! I now use the screw in type of locks from Keith Bradley.

Or you can switch over to a motor mount that doesn't use a tail ring like the one you see here on my 2nd Genesis

Absolutely, the 180a V3 is designed to run up to 6S. However, it really depends on the motor you are running and the amps it is pulling, the size of the props, type of size of hull. For example, on the Genesis I would say no on the Leopard 4082 2000kv. However, the SSS 4082 2000kv, I would say yes. This based on the specs for the motors and my own personal experience.
Best thing to do is run your boat full throttle for 30 seconds, bring it in, and see how many amps it has used up on the lipos. Then plug that into this OSE calculator: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/conversion.htm
My first Genesis is running a Leopard 4092 1730kv, M445 prop on 6S. My 2nd Genesis is on a SSS 4082 2000kv, M445 on 6S. Both have been running on 180V3, my first Genesis for over 2 years with that setup.Comment

Just for reference my 32" rivercat runs a tp4060 1720kv on 6s m445 does 70 easily but the T-180 gets HOT after 10 or so long wide open passes. I run extra tube in the heatsink which helped when ambient/water temps were cool but now that its summer it doesnt make a difference. I fried a v3 two months ago on this setup. I bought another but put an etti cap bank on this one, which stays very cool. The esc gets hot though.Comment

Just to clarify for the OP, unlike Leopard and SSS which name their motors to closely match their size, such as 4080 (40mm x 80mm) for example.
TP does not follow this same naming scheme. The TP 4060 1720kv motor that Mxkid mentions above is actually a 40mm x 90mm, and rated at Max Amps of 213. Its quite strong!
The Leopard 4092 1730 which is similar in size and kv for example has a Max Amp rating of only 140 amps.Comment

I love their motors. I use to throw them away that came with my TFL boats, but their 4082 and 4072 motors are great. With the 180V3, you can put a SSS 4082 2000kv in a Pursuit and be right around 70 mph with a X642 or M445 prop, and cool to moderate temps. I rarely get above 120F on a hard 6S run with my mono.Comment
