Anodizing parts

is anyone anodizing there own parts. if so where can i get the stuff to do it . been searching the net on how its done, but there are no real clear info i have found yet. some use rit dye and others order dye. but i would like a to know what to use i can get local and a really good step by step directions. the kits from caswell are just to far out of my price range to even think about getting. there power supplies are really high priced. for some one like me to do some rudders, fins, just not worth it. also next question it the brass insert for water tubing do those just slip in and can they be removed, just asking before i tear up a good ruddder
