This is why I epoxy coat all my electronics.....

Took the shocker ot for a spin this evening. Was just curious if my shorter rudder helped. Well it did. So much so that it busted my cooling hose loop at the front of the esc under the deck and put water in the boat and soaked the esc of course. Luckily I had epoxy coated it. He esc still works just fine.

And I took a pic a while back when i coated it. note, these escs come with a light half ass done coating on them. It had many bare spots on the circuit board

    Great insurance policy.
How can you modify that cooling tube to cope with the speed of the boat?

It definitely saved my butt! Lol

I already put a higher strength hose on it. The hose I used isn't going anywhere. It's been holding up on my Rivercat.

        kfx,
Do you just mix up a batch of epoxy, dunk your electronics in it, and hang to dry, or do you have a specific epoxy coating technique you use?

This proces I do is super cheap and simple. I use 5 minute loctite eopxy I get from Walmart. I think it's $4 for the twin tube of it. $4 is not much to spend on a $300 esc for insurance. All I do is simply mix up some and then spread in on with a paint brush.

Thanks, Kfx. Will take your advice. I take it the epoxy has never interfered with ESC cooling?

I never noticed a difference. Not sure why it would? There's many of escs that are epoxy potted from the factory. The sf240 is encapsulated in silicon rubber. The water that runs through the cooling lines is what brings the heat away from the fets.

Was just wondering if one wasn't careful to keep the epoxy coating thin, it might act as extra insulation that would trap heat and slow down heat transfer to the water cooling lines. Obviously this has never happened for you. Thanks for the advice; that's certainly an inexpensive way to completely seal and waterproof your electronics.

I like epoxy too. I took all the rubber off my 240 and coated it with 270.

Took off shrink wrap and started pulling at weak areas until most was off. Some is too difficult to remove so I left some remnants on it. Weighs less and a little thinner. I did use a modified popsicle stick to peel off tough bits being careful not to scratch anything badly.
