skeg or not to skeg strut?

new builder here..first build cheetah carbon. leopard 4082 2200kv, mount and a few misc parts. I am very confused about so much, but am trying to learn from the forum..thanks guys. I don't compete, just want to run fast as hobbiest. I am ordering a 4" extended rudder w/6 1/4 (accu tech)
I need to order a strut also. with or without skeg?
if it is for a .250 cable and I was planning to use a 1/4 brass/teflon tube will this work? do I need to order a .250 cable shaft? or use a 3/16 and reduce bushing?
    any help is appreciated.

Use the 3/16" cable, no need for 0.25". I used a strut without a skeg, don't know if it is needed or not. Search for Cheetah builds, Properchopper had a good one.

When I first began building Cheetahs for myself and my customers I experimented with skeg struts since these were going to compete on oval and/or offshore courses rather than back and forth pond bashing. Later on I've seen vids of single motor Cheetahs without skeg struts that turned on rails. I'd say, given how impressively they (the non-skeg struts boats) carved turns, that skeg struts won't hurt but aren't necessary if all other parts of the setup are correct. And Jay is correct, no need for .250 cable ; .187 is good for your motor strength.
