    Drive dog gap

Do I need to be concerned about water getting into the stuffing tube, and then into the boat, at the gap between the drive dog and the strut ?
Is there anything that I can do about it ?

If it happens (some of my boats have nothing to prevent water travelling up the shaft but the boat still remains dry), you can use grease on the cable, or place a short piece of fuel tubing slipped over the stuffing tube so that the inboard end of the tubing just touches the cable. This acts as a seal with minimal frictional drag.
