Complete newb looking for advice.

Hi everyone, my name is Dexter, I live in upstate/central New York area, canandaigua to be exact. I do not have a boat yet but am planning to get one soon. I have been researching for weeks and lurking around here and decided I would ask the question that probably been asked a thousand times.

Where is a good place to start for someone who has no RC boat experience? I've flown drones and RC cars but no boats. I have settled in on the idea of a pursuit but wanted some experienced input.

I'd like a boat that won't break the bank and will entertain me while I learn but can be upgraded repaired without having to scrounge for parts . my starter budget is probably gonna top out at 400 so if anyone has any input or words of infinite wisdom I would be eternally grateful.

Hello Dexter - welcome aboard.

There are a couple of local clubs in your area.
Getting to know them and seeing what they run may be more beneficial and also give you a place and other people to run with.

There is a club just south of you, and I know they run some Electric boats as well as gas and nitro

The Pursuit is a good starting point IMO. Easy driver and upgrade able to as far as you want to take it.

Hobby King Pursuit with hardware and stock motor will give good performance on 4 cells, if you go up a couple of prop sizes. You can also go for a hotter motor and get stellar performance. Downside is that there are no spare parts available.

Better choice might be the Proboat Impulse 31 version 3 from Horizon Hobby. More money, but full pkg, with speed control and radio, just add batteries. Great spare parts and vendor support.

Thank you for the input. I'll do some homework on the impulse. I do like the fact that it's rtr. Might be a better jumping off point given I have zero experience with assembling RC boats.

Ya I agree on the Impulse can't go wrong with a Proboat, like zooma pointed out you can't beat their product support. Charge up some lipo packs, plug and play

Dont rule out the Proboat Recoil 26.
I think its a great starter boat
Not as "hot" a boat as the others, but, IMO, fast enough to have plenty of fun, and
it will upright itself if you flip over. You can use it rough water, never have to worry about flipping.

I agree with Mitch. I have a Recoil 26". It is a great boat. I would change the radio as it a little short on range. It is a lot of fun. Flip it and it flips right back with a blip of the trigger.
