    swapped to a 12XL

OK, for those following my other thread on my ebay 32" DF copy- I swapped the stock motor for a 12XL (thank you Steven for the prompt delivery!) and switched the harness to 6S. I am still running an X438, but it runs great and what a difference in temps! Speed is up a bit as well and it still has very good run time and can run a full charge without wires falling off the ESC lol.

I should have just listened to everyone in the first place when they told me to swap the motor out, it would have saved some headaches! I was hoping that propped right, it would work, but the amp draw was too much for the ESC to take.

Next question- what is a good prop for a 12XL on 6S? I'm thinking an x442 would be a nice all around prop for it, but wanted to see what others are running on this motor for sport playing.

Try Grimracer 40x52 3 blade prop. I noticed extra 3 mph for the same average amp draw than m440 prop with my electric Vegas. I now run Grimracer L42x66 prop at 50mph but with 15 more amps. My motor is Neu 1515 1.5y 1500 Kv, close to your 12XL with 1400 Kv. Get data logger when playing with these bigger props, watch your average power. I doubt that 12XL can survive long term running same power as Neu. So take it easy, i guess stay 1000 - 1200 Watts average with good water cooling. I think 40x52 3 blade will be most you can safely run at this voltage. But check with data logger to be completely sure, to avoid demagnetizing your motor from too much heat and frying your ESC.

Just saw your post in swap shop section. You really need better water cooling for your 12XL. Get something like this: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...ham-jack-540XL You are seriously risking demagnetizing of your motor with your current cooling setup. You can use this one too: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=ose-mjacket but the first one is better. Stay with x438 prop for now to be safe.

That is my 10L in my streamer. The motor stays in the low 100s with that setup. I've been meaning to get a jacket for that one, but it works well and keeps slipping my mind anyway. My 12XL in this boat and my 8XL in my cat both have jackets on them.

Hey, I am an old fart compared to many here lol. I just remember being told by a well known FE guy a few years back to run fewer cells and prop up accordingly whenever I questioned upping the cell count, so I guess that is stuck in my head. Hell, they wanted me to run 6 cells nimh or 2S lipo in my 27" streamer because "12cells is way too much for this hull"! Glad I didn't even attempt that one!

Hah, I am only 35- not really an "old fart" but not as young as many on the RC forums lol.

Glad the setup is working out for you. I say move up to the next prop size. x440.

Well, that's why I got those Graupner carbon props from you to try- just to see which one it likes, then go with a S/B Octura, but they don't fit. The prop shaft uses a cone with a set screw to hold the prop on, not a nut and the area for the prop is too short for those props. I'll have to measure my X440 on my cat and see if it is deeper than the 438 as well, or if it is just the Graupner props that are. I may have to swap out the flex to one with a standard threaded stub on it.
