I got a 36 40 3900kv motor from a freind and was going to try it in my micro drifter do you think it will work? Or is it to small? The boat it small and light so I thought it might work ok with a low amp draw.

i dont know about that motor. but i used to run my micro drifter with a motor that looks just like the feiago 380 motors, but this one looks like a 380s. thats a 4400 kv and ran nicely on 7,4v 2200.
but i am running 25 and 28mm props with around 1,4 pitch.
im now running a 380L and that is to much on 11.1v and 28mm propLast edited by video200; 09-26-2008, 02:48 AM. -
Given that I have all of 10 minutes of BL experience I will offer up an opinion.
A 36-40- will not have a lot of torque
I now have a 36-36-4000 and it is very close in power to a 23t brushed can.
If that is the sort of power that it takes to get a MD up and honking then you are on a winner. If not then you will need a longer can.
I have JUST found all of this out, the hard (my) way.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

We run those motors in spec riggers at our club races. The hulls are 25" and go like crazy. We are running V935/3 blades and modded 2135's. These run race distances without cooling and get to ~130F.
The little motor has more power than you might think. Start with an X435. This is assuming you'll run 2S Lpos. Conside a Castle sidewinder for an ESC.

Thanx alot for the input. I thought it would go pretty good and yes I am running 2s2p 3600 25c poly rc with a x power 100 both water cooled and will start with a x632 and go up from there. Hope it goes good. I will let you knopw and ad pics after it's installed.SV 27,brushless mini vee, renegade rigger, twinstorm, micro drifter, super hawaii , 1/12 miss budwieserComment
