AM Avenger 36 + CC 2028 too much??

I'm in the process of sourcing the parts for a 50" Cat build, though I stumbled upon a nice little AM Avenger 36 in the swap shop that I just had to have =). So I've got all the main ingredients for a 50" cat, but not for a 36" cat.

Both hulls will be for sport boating, no racing anymore.

Here's what I'm working with:
-Avenger 36
-CC Extreme 2028
-SF Pro 300+
-Dinogy 5s 65c 6000mAh x 4 (10s2p for 50" cat)

Is this setup too much for the smaller 36" Avenger? Weight, overpowered, space for components, etc.?

Here's an alternate suggestion setup that I've been toying with:
-TP4070 5D
-5s2p 12000mAh in total

Hell need to butcher in a new motor mount etc for a change that drastic....bad advice.

That motor is way to big for that hull.

Yep, wrong motor. Many of use who run the SprintCat (same bottom) run 6S and a 40x92 sized motor. If you have to run the batteries you have, then run 10S1P/6000 mAh. Select a motor with a Kv of around 900/1000 and you will have awesome performance and enough run time. You will pull half the amps compared to 5S with equal performance.

Don't be afraid of high voltage, just keep the amps down. I run an 8S Titan 29 and it runs great; not too fast with plenty of run time on 8S1P.

Thank you all for the help! I figured the 2028 was overkill in the Avenger.

Jay: If my math is correct on 10s @ 900/1000 kv I'm looking at rpm's in the 33,000/37,000 range. What props should I consider at those rpm's?

Actual on the water rpm will likely be between 28,000 and 32,000. An x455 should get you in the low to upper 60s depending on the motor. The new ABC 2116-15 prop might work even better but watch temps. A 40x9X motor is recommended. I really like the HET motors, more efficient than Leopards or TPs....but a bit more costly. The HET 700-98-935 motor would be a good choice, but the Leo and TP will work fine. You might start with an x648 with those motors.

I don't want to (or mean to) solicit your thread but I have the perfect motor for your setup. If your interested let me know, I'll tell you more about it. In my 37" cat it pushed it to 76 on 6s with an an abc 1915.

I should also ask if you guys think a 2028 will push a 50" cat at decent speeds. Most are putting them in 40"-44" hulls.

I got a very low use neu 1530 1440kv that would push that hull nicely on 6s. Like I said I got 76 max out of it and an average of 72-73 (on 6s). It's a 11+lb 37" cat. It went 88 Saturday on 8s. 48mm 1.5 pitch prop. Motor never gets warm with that setup. I have it in the swap shop for $275 shipped. If you bent on getting a tp, I have a brand new in box 1770kv 4070 I'd sell for $125 shipped. Now I must be honest. I built two identical monos for two guys that are buddies. With the same prop (the same prop swapped to each boat) the 1530 boat would soundly spank the tp powered boat by close to 10mph iirc. The struts are set the same. The rudder is even shorter on the slower tp powered boat. The guy with the tp said he doesn't think the 4070 is even on par with a 1527. I also have done some motor swap comparing with a 1527 vs a 4070 and it's definitely not as powerful. I'm just throwing these out there if you needed a motor and wanted to save a few bucks. I need to thin my motor collection out anyway.

Without a doubt NEU's are some of the best motors out there. I've owned several over the years and they always performed well for me; the 1527 was my favorite!

This cat is just a little side project while I wait for the BIG cat delivery so I don't want to throw too much money at it. I sold most of my RC gear a few years ago so having to repurchase most everything is proving costly. I appreciate the offer for the NEU motor, but it's a bit more than I want to spend atm. As far as the TP goes, it it were lower kv I'd take you up on it. I'm going to run 10s motors per Jay's advice above. Something in the 900-1050kv range is more suitable for this cat.
