kfxguy: Yea, it does... but even then it's going to be that much more accurate in your longer passes too. Most likely a few mph diff.

You can compare the 2 when you're driving and you'll see how much a difference it makes.
Try it when you're going from a stop 0-60, or when accelerating especially. You'll most likely notice a few mph difference at all times (at least).

Just be sure when you're trying it that you actually make sure you're using the latest firmware (fixes the 10hz bug). Cuz it won't let you use 10hz even if you had it selected. If the GPS screen doesn't seem like its updating 5-10 times a second, then its not 10hz.

Good info. Sometimes I'll run my boat and just know it looked faster than the gps showed, didn't realize that the garmins are that slow to refresh. My shocker definitely looked faster than the speeds I was getting on the gps but they were short runs.

Got the dynamite to test. Here's my thoughts about it:

It's smaller than the garmin 201
Display is small and looks like a cheap lcd watch
        No illumination
Does not read in tenths of a mph
Very easy to set up and operate
        Reacts very fast.

I don't like that it doesn't read in tents of a mph but I'm not so sure that matters much. I just like the extra accuracy (maybe and you'll see why). I let my son drive and we went ride around. I took some video and got a top speed reading. Here's how they fair for top speed difference

        And a video

Differences would be even more noticeable (usually by a few mph at least) at 90-100mph...

Did you check plug it into the computer and messed with the firmware yet? Out of the box I think it was like 2hz I believe.

Mine was at 10hz already. I'm putting my boat back together right now to go test it out

Wow, what a difference in refresh rate. I just got the Eagle Tree e-logger with the 10hz GPS sensor and an LCD display. That should do the job of mapping speed to current draw. But, there is a lot of stuff to load into the hull and protect.

I know. Glad I could show that in real time. I think that was pretty helpful. My readings may be even more consistent now. I was having to make super long passes to get a good reading when the boat topped out way before letting off. Will also help in smaller bodies of water. I'm heading to the lake shortly. It's 72f here and BEAUTIFUL!

Oh ok, well... this new firmware update that fixed the "10hz activation bug" was pretty recent and I'm doubtful they come updated. I would double check. I bet you it's only 5hz right now.

Not sure what the point of Eagletree is ... when the max current supported is only 150 amps.

If you want a real logger you go with something like the Unilog2... supports 400 amps.

I dunno. I checked it and 10hz was checked off. If you watch the video it's pretty apparent the refresh is super fast compared to the garmin. I'm thinking about selling my garmin now lol. Not that anything is wrong with it, I just need something more accurate and faster.

I never got into the eagle tree logging. Because of that. What's 150 amps? Nothing lol. I average over 180 on my small cat. The swordfish 300 seems to have a pretty decent logger. The castle one is ok too but I'm not too sure about it. Once I get things lined out on my 4s 32" cat I'll put a non logging sf300 in it to see if it's worth more speed and more efficient. Right now as I'm testing props and things I need it. Here's she is ready to show you guys what the difference is in the two gps at high speeds.

Yea I gotcha, but did it say that your firmware matched the latest up-to-date version? That's what I meant by bug-- even though it lets you select 10hz... the device does not work at 10hz.

Look into Unilog2 if you want some good logging later on-- it's all in german and is made there, but you can use up to 3 temp sensors at one time, along with logging RPM, 400+ amps current, and removable microSD flash, etc.

Went ran the test and got some good data. This first run was a short burst. Maybe 100ft to 150ft. This very much so tells the refresh rate difference.

This is a nice longer pass like I normally do about 300+ feet

I still do not like the lack of reading in tenths of a mph

Yea that'd be nice, but if you want some extra accuracy run it in Kilometer mode instead of Miles...

I want to update this. Even tho it's claimed this gps is waterproof, IT IS NOT. Not even close. This one got wet and was unresponsive. Being me, I took it apart to see why. Had water in it. And guess what? The halves did not have any sort of seal, o ring or anything. But if you inspect it, the buttons are sealed. The caps are sealed. The screen is even sealed well (all have some sort of clear sealant on them) but there is no effort to seal the halves. Lol.

I ended up sealing it with some weak silicone. See how it goes now.

Didn't I mention to use a waterproof bag? It's "water resistant", but it has always worked for me after drying it out with a blow dryer, etc when it got water inside. Got mine wet a couple times and worked fine every time.

On top of that, seal those buttons and rubber seals near the buttons with some good waterproof duct tape or something for extra security. Maybe even go over the board with some corrosionX...
