    Create a pivot point.
Not all boats have them hydros and monos or v hulls are what benefit from them.
It lets the boat pivot on the turn fin to help it make full circle turn.
Without them many boats do not turn very well and some not at all really.

So if i have a boat that turns so well that it actually is too much - then it might benefit from having the fins removed ???

Possibly, but the turn fins can be adjusted for angle and some can be adjusted for depth as well...everything has an impact on handling. What boat are we talking about specifically?

Making them smaller helps on over active turn fins too!

Turn fins are not limited to just in turns, they can also help with chine walk. When the boat starts rocking from side to side in chine walk the tips of the turn fins touching the water either side as the boat rocks can stabilise the boat. As in teeter totting.

So try it without and then you'll know what you need or not. Some hulls that have cupping at the back help a boat turn. Cupping in v hulls is bad for most people, some say they use it to avoid using turn fins.

I've seen the watersnake run w/o turn fins and it handled great, I drove it too. I'm not a hardcore oval guy but it was really impressive in the turns even with just trim tabs. I've seen quite a few watersnake run w/o fins.

                        I'll give it a try without ...

Another Question: The most boats I have seen have the rudder mounted on the right side of the drive - a few has the rudder mounted left... Does it do any difference right vs. left ???
