    Hulls/Classes for RC Car/Truck Electronics

There are a lot of local guys (and gals) that race RC dirt oval. They have stardard RC car and truck electronics. I know from talking with a couple of guys at work that they would be interested in running boats, if they could use some of their old/spare electronics. Does anyone here have experience with running these car and truck brushless systems in a boat? What hulls work best?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I would think something in the 22 to 24 inch range is you chose hydros or 1/16th scale hydro.Lots of Gary Finlay plans free online for 1/16th scale builds

You could set them up to run 2 or 3s

Castle motors are used quite often. 1515's in p classes, 1717's in Q classes and 2028's in T classes. Search for mamba xl's as they're also used.

Jim's suggestions would be good for stock-type motors on 2S. Monos, cats and hydros under 26" would work well if properly setup. Best to find some help from experienced boaters, I know from years of experience that car folks who transition to boats will damage equipment unless they are mentored by experienced boaters. A large number of members here (just like most car forums) have limited experience and can lead you wrong. Choose your "experts" carefully.

Car escs and motors from 1/10 scale will usually be to high of kv on the motor and amps too low on the controller. Especially if your just starting out in the boating world. I started out coming from 1/10 buggies and it's very much different. You can smoke an esc in 15 seconds (my first built boat I did this). I suggest getting a good rtr boat and learning from there. You'll get a better idea of how it all works rather than jump in not knowing anything about boats. The load a prop puts on a motor and esc is far greater than wheels to the road.
